I need some help obtaining a back issue of the Boston Globe from December 17, 2004. There was an article regarding the Natick Army Lab entitled "$18M Pledge Aimed to Save Natick Army Lab". Accompanying the article was a photograph of Ted Kennedy looking at equipment. Behind him were two soldiers. One was the son of my firm's receptionist. She is trying to get a copy of the paper and ot the photo, but the Boston Globe charges rape and pillage rates to get a photo ($50) and more for a single page "reprint". Our receptionist has limited funds and...

Questionf for my fellow FReepers: My homeowners association is looking at putting up a website. We are also looking to do it on the cheap or free if possible. Can anyone recommend a good free webhosting site? My neighbors and I ran and got control of the board to keep the HOA Nazis out of power and we are trying to keep the assessments as low as possible, yet still have services to residents. The website was a good way to keep everyone informed. We have a free Yahoo Group, but folks are not siging up and we are limited...
  • He scores big by arranging music for 'The Aviator'

On New Year's Day, Tom Roberts sat in a movie theater watching Martin Scorsese's biopic "The Aviator." But unlike others in the theater, Roberts wasn't focused on the action unfolding on the big screen, with Leonardo DiCaprio bringing the adventures of the eccentric Howard Hughes to life. His ears were tuned, instead, to the cinema's speakers, listening for the sounds of the music he either played or arranged for the film.

    A friend's daughter's letter to Santa | 12/6/04 | RayBob
Guys, I need your help. A friend's daughter has written a letter to Santa asking him some questions... you see, she's on the cusp...she still wants to believe but has her doubts. One of the things that she asked for was a picture of a reindeer. (She also asked what Mrs. Claus's first name was.) I know I'll get flamed for wanting to encourage a child to believe in Santa by the anti-Santa crowd. Frankly, I don't care. These folks are Christians and this little girl knows what Christmas is all about, but there is also the magic of a...

I was thinking about an effective ad to bring back the "security moms" to Bush... The ad would open with images from the 1993 WTC bombing with thedate scrolling across the screen and the words "World Trade Center, bombed my terrorists...x killed, xxx injured... Next images of Kobar Towers... "Kobar Towers, Saudi Arabia, x dead, x injured... Next The Embassy Bombings... "US Embassy in [x] and [x]... x dead and x injured... The USS Cole... Urgent: Prayers needed. My wife, Lisa, is 10 weeks pregnant. We tried for 2 years and finally succeeded. Now we are facing a possible miscarraige. She started bleeding last night and is experiencing pain in her back and side. We called the doctor and she said that it might be a miscarriage, and if it is, there is nothing that they can do. We go for an ultrasound in a couple hours (earliest time we could get); with the ultrasound, they can determine if it is a miscarraige or not. Please pray for Lisa and our child. While your at...

Did anyone catch the season finale of Six Feet Under on HBO? I've never seen this show before, but was unable to sleep last night and saw an encore presentation. The series appears to revolve around a family of undertakers. Very dysfunctional bunch. Apparently one brother is a fudgepacker, the other has a screw loose... Anyway, in the previews, it showed the sister? of the two undertakers asking a woman to give her a ride as she had to go get an abortion. Very glib, non chalant. Well all of these crackpots apparently converse with the ghost of their dead...

The first season of PBS's "American Family," in which Edward James Olmos plays the conservative patriarch of a Hispanic Los Angeles family, comes out on DVD today.

But it's his role as another patriarch that's bound to get TV viewers in their 30s and 40s talking. Olmos is filming Sci Fi Channel's miniseries remake of the late '70s TV show "Battlestar Galactica." Olmos takes over the role of Commander Adama, originally played by the late Lorne Greene.

WARNING: If you get an e-mail saying that you received an "Insta-Kiss", delete it. For Pete's sake, don't do what we did. Out of curiousity, we followed the link, and foolishly entered our screenname and password...they highjacked our account and changed the password. They spammed a bunch of folks....lots of folks....it was not a good thing. We are still trying to get it all sorted out, but we aqre far from done.
  • Peter Beaman: Bashing the French gets us nowhere

    Pittsburgh Post Gazette ^ | March 17, 2003 | Peter Beaman

Bashing the French leads to some difficult issues. Would the "Freedom Kiss" be less erotic? Would we have to say that George W. Bush took "Freedom Leave" from his Texas Air National Guard unit in the early 1970s?

The real -- and serious -- issue is that we are bashing ourselves. The early stated French position on the war to be fought in Iraq was clear enough: War is the failure of diplomacy and not a good result; we should allow inspections to continue to the point where a negative can be (dis)proven: Saddam has (no) weapons of mass destruction. Things are changing rapidly, but this view -- the "Freedom View" --has been widely held by Americans: about 50 percent. Those who would eliminate "French" from our vocabulary are ignoring the very "Big Fact" (so dear to Fox News) that debate about the war in Iraq is an American, not a "French" or "Freedom" issue.

Federal Judge Orders Lawyers to Surrender Internal E-Mails Shannon P. Duffy Judge Harvey Bartle III has a word of advice for lawyers who are threatened with malpractice lawsuits: Don't talk amongst yourselves. In a 10-page opinion in Koen Book Distributors v. Powell Trachtman Logan Carrle Bowman & Lombardo, the U.S. district judge ordered a law firm to turn over a slew of e-mails exchanged among the firm's lawyers during a 35-day period after the firm was threatened with a malpractice suit and before the client had hired new lawyers. Bartle, of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, rejected the firm's argument...

All of the moles tested turned out to be melanoma. She was referred to another doctor and we now must deal with these, plus other moles which may be cancerous. We don't know if its made its way into the lymphatic system. Until we see the doctor and have more test run, all we can do is wait and pray.

I need some technical help and since you folks have been so quick to help in the past and able to come up with solutions that others could not, I thought I'd give it a try. I have a document on a computer disk that I need to get access to. OK, here's the tricky part: its a 5-1/4" floppy. OK, you can stop laughing. No really...stop laughing. I mean it. I can't find anyone with a 5-1/4" drive and hoped that one of our FReeper computer gurus might have one as a souvenir of the good old days of...
