Minister Louis Farrakhan, head of the controversial Chicago-based Nation of Islam, kicked off a three-day, anti-war campaign in metro Detroit on Wednesday by calling President George W. Bush a greater threat to world peace than Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. ``I am crying out to the American people to rise up, because our president is a threat to world peace,'' Farrakhan said at a press conference at Greektown's Atheneum Hotel. Surrounded by supporters from the Nation of Islam, an African-American offshoot of Islam that today comprises only a small portion of black Muslims, Farrakhan was cheered by his followers as he...

From the Web site: We have received countless emails letting us know that some misguided person has started an online petition to try to convince Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema that the film of The Two Towers should be renamed in light of the events of September 11. Their reasoning behind the petition is that the title "is clearly meant to refer to the attacks on the World Trade Center," and that PJ & Co. are simply trying to "cash in" on the tragedy. For obvious reasons, not the least of which being that the second installment of The...

STURGIS, Mich. -- A twin-engine airplane crashed, and the pilot and two passengers escaped with minor injuries. One of the engines failed shortly after the Cessna 414 took off from Sturgis Airport on Sunday, the Michigan State Police reported from the White Pigeon post. The pilot, 62-year-old Lawrence Werchky of Sturgis, notified authorities and said he was going to attempt a landing at the airport. Instead, the plane went down in a field a mile away, state police Sgt. Michael Krajniak said. Werchky and his two passengers were treated at Sturgis Hospital for "bumps and bruises," Krajniak said.
