Thanks for that link. It looks like a winner. I ditched cable over a year ago. I’ve found enough to watch on Netflix that it’s worth the nominal cost. Netflix’s House of Cards was a good watch, and they have a number of Christian themed and inspirational movies. I looked at Hulu and was disgusted by what was offered/suggested - heavy sexual and homosexual content. I don’t want to see that stuff when I go to look for a movie. My husband does well with Youtube, but I rarely find anything there except links to pay sites.

I’m commenting on the basis of having been an NICU nurse for many years. There is a huge difference between a “cleft lip and palate” and a “bilateral cleft lip and palate” that this infant had. A bilateral cleft takes multiple, expensive surgeries as the infant grows so this isn’t a simple, surgical fix. Secondly, I am aware of ethics panels advising and pressuring women to abort. I’ve seen it. Also, when I got pregnant at 35, my Ob’s office nurse repeatedly tried to pressure me into having AFP screening done, to the point of having a screaming tirade. At least as a nurse with experience in the area I could defend my position and have the strength to not be intimidated and back down. This story neither surprises me or sets off my “BS meter.”

I told them the same thing. I’ve gotten some great deals through Living Social and Groupon. My daughter had several archery lessons I wouldn’t have known were available so close. She enjoyed it and when scheduling more were encouraged by the company to get a few more Groupons and take advantage of the discount. She is scheduled for horseback riding lessons next week. My windows are being cleaned tomorrow, which is something I wouldn’t have paid for except for the great discount. My ducts were cleaned in December, something I’d wanted done a long time and finally did because of the good deal. I’ve also eaten at a local sushi restaurant I’d wanted to try. There was no difference in what I was served the 3-4 more times I went back because I liked the restaurant. I’ve been to a museum I wanted to see because Living Social offered a half off coupon. I hope Living Social doesn’t do something as stupid becuase I’ll stop using them, too. We have a local “machine gun experience” they had a deal for so I’m hopeful I’ll keep getting great deals.

I live in Las Vegas and it is quite the schizophrenic town. I used to dread crossing The Strip to take my daughter to UNLV. It’s basically a giant red light district and a part of “Las Vegas” that isn’t part of our day-to-day life. Las Vegas is heavy on Mormon’s and cowboys that get over shadowed by the debauchery. It’s a nice place to live but I wouldn’t want to visit. Thankfully, when people visit, they’re usually actually in the town of Paradise and not Las Vegas. So I guess they won’t have to take down the huge sign with the chick in a thong- just re-brand it. ***sigh*** It keeps the work cut out for us Christians.

Lying isn’t necessary. Smart or clever people can answer in a way that makes people interpret your answer to your liking.

    “Do you own a guy?”
    “I’m a pacifist.”

That is a statement, not a “no” answer and I left off, “until you break into my home....”

or even better for me personally-

The flu deaths are reported to the CDC, as are deaths from most causes. While it’s hard to get an accurate count, statistical methods do help to get a count that is at least within the ball park. Every week, I read CDC’s report.

Flu is a tough one. If it doesn’t kill you outright, it can make you more susceptible to a secondary infection that can kill you.

I didn’t just fall off the turnip truck. But please, feel free to tell me what I experienced and witnessed first hand in the small, conservative community. “The Bible tells us “an eye for an eye”. Neither the teacher, nor the principle were ignorant....”

I wasn’t aware that you personally knew them. The New Testament instructs us to love our neighbor as our self. The “eye for an eye” is Old Testament. If I do something ignorant I’d prefer someone speak to me and enlightens me rather than dragging me into court and destroying my life and my career. Of course if I don’t subsequently change, then I deserve what I get.

“...the liberal-run teachers unions are doubling down to exercise total control over the children....”

That may be true, however the incident I mentioned happened many years ago.

“These people are evil and they are evil deliberately.”

Again, I didn’t realize you knew the specific people. They seemed pretty horrified when presented with documentation and the ramifications. They were truly sorry, and were truly ignorant. I’m pretty sure it sparked adequate fear in them of what could have potentially happened that they had a “there but for the grace of God go I” moment, which from their reaction seemed punishment enough. There are enough evil teachers that we don’t need to besmirch the ones that are honestly trying, even if at times ignorant and misguided. Lets not paint them all with the same brush. Thankfully, my daughter only had to be in public school a few years due to severe economic hardship.

The woman should do some research. She has grounds to sue and make a nice chunk of money. My daughter developed a urinary tract infection the first year she attended public school at the age of 10. I discovered that the teacher wouldn’t allow the children restroom breaks unless they did a math problem. As an RN who’d worked in a regional Pediatric hospital, I was livid. I put together some documentation on lawsuits won by parents and what the medical community had to say about denying bathroom breaks. I gave the documentation to the principal. The practiced stopped immediately. Because I’m a Christian, I couldn’t in good conscience take the school district to the cleaners and destroy lives just because they were ignorant.

Living Social has both national and local deals. Because I live in a large city, I get more local offerings than when I lived in a smaller one. I’ve used a 1/2 off museum ticket and at least 3 restaurant deals locally. The other ones have been national. I bought 2 of my adult children very nice Foreman grills that were a great bargain. If you get 3 friends to buy the deal, then the deal is free for you. I haven’t used Groupon, but I think it’s similar to Living Social. My adult daughter uses both.

I’ve had to give away preps 4 times since Y2K. A lot of missions and food banks were blessed. I had to go where the Lord sent me and it didn’t include being able to take them. When my husband, daughter and I were broke on a Pacific Island, we found food in the refrigerator we didn’t buy or put there. I’ve seen food multiplied. When we had practically nothing, our neighbors out of the blue brought a whole stem of bananas. Another time, our other neighbors invited us to a feast, just for us, to meet us because I’d been friendly to their daughter. When I was single and without work, with almost nothing in the fridge, I found yogurt (my favorite) that I knew was put there supernaturally. You don’t miss stuff like that if your fridge is pretty much bare. We went to a weekly walk when we had nothing for our daughter. The group was having a picnic that day that included cake so we all celebrated her birthday. Prepping is wise, but it’s wiser to find out what the Lord specifically wants one to do. One shoe doesn’t always fit all. Do I have a well stocked pantry and other supplies? Will they end up being given away again? Only God knows. God can still send a raven today.

leaving a TV or stereo on during the day usually helps someone like me avoid your home. This usually indicates someone is home. Also most burglars won’t even attempt entry if they know there’s a large dog in the home.

    ___________________________________________________________

I rented the upstairs of an ex-policeman’s house in N.J. around 1980 when I was 18. He’d go out in the evening, leave the tv and mood lighting on, with the front door cracked in nice weather. He had a St. Bernard. He said burglars don’t want to stumble on someone home. The neighbors had bars on everything and had been burgled 3 times. No one had ever touched his house.

I know exactly what my GSD would do. I had him outside with me the first time I had a cleaning woman over, because he’s so protective I can’t even walk him. He caught sight of her and was full body length up the glass side door in viscous mode. I had to run my daughter to school and put him in the bedroom, not really thinking about the shutters and gardeners coming. No one was home. I found my shutters a mess. I once had an ex Seal do security for our company. He said an intruder would just throw a dog some meat. Not this dog. He doesn’t eat stuff dropped unless called to eat it by me, and I regularly leave late night snacks on the coffee table- never touched. I figure if I were home, by the time I got my gun and the safety off I wouldn’t need it. We worked with a professional trainer who came to the conclusion the protectiveness wouldn’t be trained out of him. I’m guessing it’s from his East German blood line. Being a woman living alone, I’m pretty happy with him.

I’m a pilot, married to a pilot. We know many pilots who have taken up other careers. I saw my husband Friday and Saturday after not seeing him for nearly 8 months because he had to take a job flying a VIP private jet that’s not at home base much. He was able to talk the company into training a back up pilot who’s been unemployed for 2 years. He was fired under trumped up charges so someone making less money with the company could take his position. It’s not uncommon and we personally know pilots it’s happened to, including my husband who’s company claimed that they didn’t get his voluntary furlough paper work, so adios. He had very top seniority and had been a check airman, so was making one of the highest salaries. As far a suing the company- fat chance. They have millions to drag it out forever and we’d go broke. Also, there’s the 600 hour wonders hired by the majors to meet minority quotas. Then there’s dealing with the FAA...talk about evil, corrupt government. I quit flying 12 years ago. And with Obozocare, I’ll be making all my nursing licenses inactive, which is 2 out of 6 that I hold. I won’t be going back. I’d rather work at McDonalds if I have to work than work in health care again.

I’m over 50 and have 3 college educated sisters, two of them with engineering degrees. My mother and father were graduates of prestigious colleges. My mother had a very successful career. Only my youngest sister went to day care. When my sisters and I had our children, I was the only one that continued working, but I was an RN, only worked 3 days a week, and felt it was a calling. Just saying. Thankfully it sounds like Fluck doesn’t plan on reproducing. Women should be well educated so they can raise well educated children.
