I’m really getting tired of the Rubio and Ryan ad running on local radio and TV. Rubio says illegals will come out of the shadows, pay a fine, and not be elegible for benefits for 13? years. Why would any of the illegals who are getting benefits come out of the shadow, pay a fine and stop getting benefits? He goes on to say the first thing will be to secure the border. I know the rat Senator in Ohio (Brown) and Chuckie Schumer have amnesty first on the list. We’re being sold a bill of goods by representatives moving over to the establishment darkside.

Obama has to be running scared over this. Fewer of his underlings are willing to fall on their swords for him. There’s no more room under the bus.

If I remember correctly, the 911 funds that came in through private donations were administered by the United Way, which was totally unsuited to do the job. The United Way is used to dealing with businesses and corporations; not individuals. As a result funds were given to virtually any business who applied (e.g porno outlets) and said they were affected by 911. I had a pithy comment read on O’Reilly Factor comparing the United Way to Hillary getting credit for attending the funerals when it was Schumer (I despise him equally) who went to the funerals.

Yep. I’ve lived in Altavista and Lynchburg. Used to cut through Concord and Rustburg to get to Altavista from Appomattox. I worked in tobacco fields when I was in High School. Harvesting dark leaf was backbreaking work, but got us out of school a few weeks.

My Mother’s family was scattered all over Appomattox and Buckingham counties. We moved from Baltimore and my folks built a house in Vera in 1961. I graduated from Appomattox High School in 1969. I was accepted at Virginia Tech, but was holding back waiting on an appointment to USAFA. My physical for USAFA was at Fort Lee. Funny, but AFROTC wouldn’t accept the USAFA physical from Fort Lee (Army?), so I had to retake it at Langley, AFB a few weeks later. When I got to USAFA, they had lost my records and I had to retake the physical again. My parents passed away in ‘78 and ‘89. We still have 68 acres of land there. I was railroaded out of the Academy after 2 years by a AOC who had to get rid of 5 of our group. I ended up working for large contractors in DOE and DOD, and still get invited back to Academy reunions (one coming up in September).

I grew up in Appomattox, VA - about 3 miles from the National Park. Our house and my father’s Texaco were on the road to Richmond (now US-24), so we dug up lots of minnie balls, pieces of uniform with buttons, 3 cannon shells (sombody with a metal detector found them in a field next to the Texaco), and a bayonet (my brother hung his rake on this one in our front yard). Next to the surrender grounds is the home of Joe Sweeney (5-string banjo).
