CAMDENTON, Mo. (AP) — Homeowners near Missouri's Lake of the Ozarks fear a decision by federal regulators could jeopardize thousands of homes, gazebos, boathouses and other buildings.

The lake is formed by a dam owned by Ameren Missouri, which was required to develop a plan for the lake's shoreline. The utility says thousands of homes and other buildings appear to encroach on property designated for the dam. DALLAS — A multimillion dollar whitewater course along the Trinity River in Dallas is complete, but the park isn't open. And it won't open until a major problem is fixed. Kayaker Justin Blake is one of the few who dares ride the rough water at The Dallas Waves park. Officially, it's closed; too dangerous, city leaders say. Blake now understands why after riding it for the first time this week. "You could get seriously injured if you're not careful," he said. The city spent millions of dollars adding concrete dams to create the whitewater rapids.

DALLAS — Dallas will keep $2,000 found by a teenager in a parking lot last February. The money will go into the city's general fund — not back to Plano high school student Ashley Donaldson, who found the cash in an envelope at the Pavillion Shopping Center in North Dallas. "I don't regret making the decision I did," she said. "I feel proud of myself for giving the money back. It's one of the biggest decisions of my life." The 15-year-old Shepton High School student spotted the money on the ground and took it to a nearby Chase Bank. Over...

ARLINGTON , Texas — The faithful have started to arrive in this drab, featureless city a little closer to Fort Worth than to Dallas. They have come sweat-panted and reverent to stand along Collins Street to photograph Cowboys Stadium, to walk the sidewalk surrounding its $1.2 billion form. The building rises up out of the immense rolling prairie as if raised by supplicants to the higher power of football, capitalism and Texas, a silver biscuit large enough that were the Statue of Liberty to be erected inside it, the torch would barely blacken the retractable roof. On Sunday it will...

Many Mexican immigrants, legal or otherwise, see themselves as part of a process of retaking the United States that once was a part of Mexico. Recent Mexican law permits dual citizenship which tacitly supports this notion. This objective is aptly described by Jose Ramos, anchorman since 1986 on Noticieros, a Miami news program on Univision cable network, also seen in Mexico and 13 other Latin-American countries.

Republicans at the Texas GOP convention in Dallas this weekend, passed a party plank that supports tougher enforcement of immigration laws in Texas. IMHO, I think this is a great step forward for Texans who support SB1070 in Arizona. SAN ANTONIO — Japan's ambassador to the United States apologized Saturday on behalf of his country for the 65-mile forced walk of U.S. troops and allies during World War II that left some 11,000 prisoners of war dead. "As former prime ministers of Japan have repeatedly stated: The Japanese people should bear in mind that we must look into the past and to learn from the lessons of history," Ichiro Fujisaki said at the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor, the San Antonio Express-News reported. He said his country was extending a heartfelt apology for "having caused tremendous damage and...

PRISTINA, Serbia — Revelers fired guns into the air and fireworks lit up the skies over Kosovo on Sunday after parliament proclaimed independence, defying Serbia and Russia with a historic declaration as the world's newest nation. A decade after a bloody separatist war with Serbian forces that claimed 10,000 lives, lawmakers pronounced the territory the Republic of Kosovo and pledged to make it a "democratic, multiethnic state." Its leaders looked for swift recognition from the U.S. and key European powers — but also braced for a bitter showdown. Russia's Foreign Ministry said the declaration violates Serbia's sovereignty and the U.N....
