A 63-year-old former engineer may not fit the typical image of a dark-clad assassin with deadly weapons who can disappear into a cloud of smoke. But Jinichi Kawakami is reputedly Japan's last ninja. As the 21st head of the Ban clan, a line of ninjas that can trace its history back some 500 years, Kawakami is considered by some to be the last living guardian of Japan's secret spies.

Last night, I watched a news segment of store owners, workers, and patrons fighting off armed criminals. The segment referred to it as "vigilantism", I and sane people call it self defense. They go on to interview a business owner who shot at and fought off some robbers, but then they go to some "expert" who describes fighting back as "suicide". They give two examples, a good man who tries to bludgeon a bad guy with a gun with a bottle but gets shot and a store worker who shoots at the robbers and gets fired for it. The former...

Dayna Donovan was in for a surprise when she learned two strangers had been living in her Littleton, Colo., home for eight months. They still haven't moved out despite a judge's ruling they had to be out by the weekend. On Thursday, a judge in Arapahoe County ruled that Veronica Fernandez-Beleta and Jose Rafael Leyva-Caraveo, the two people who were living in the home, had to move out by Saturday morning. But as of Monday evening, Donovan, 43, said the two were still there.

Gay marriage, and especially gay parenting, has been in the cross hairs in recent days. On Jan. 6, Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum told a New Hampshire audience that children are better off with a father in prison than being raised in a home with lesbian parents and no father at all.

Economists tend to speak in unemotional, non-judgmental terms. People and companies respond to incentives, or seek profits and efficiency. Economists tend to identify problems as issues having to do with the allocation or resources. But in his new book, The Price of Civilization: Reawakening American Virtue and Prosperity, economist Jeffrey Sachs discusses the plight of the U.S. economy in highly moral terms.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A 1970s militant who escaped from a murder sentence in New Jersey and carried out one of the most brazen hijackings in U.S. history was captured in Portugal after more than 40 years as a fugitive when the case suddenly unraveled after police matched his fingerprint to a resident ID card, authorities said Tuesday.

Youtube is going above and beyond advertising the movie 'Red State' by Kevin Smith. A movie about a bunch of a violent, Christian cult that rants about homosexuals and probably inspired by the Westboro Boro jerks. Is is a deliberate attack on Christians and is in Youtube's Spotlight section, Youtube is actively supporting this movie. Not too surprising. They give a lot of attention to PC and left of center causes; but this is pretty blatant IMO

COMMENTARY | Most who listen to Rush Limbaugh don't think too much about what he is saying. That's why they -- as a collective -- earned the nickname "dittoheads" back in the day when Limbaugh lorded it over both a radio and television empire. But those who do still think while the man drones on (and on) about how liberals and Democrats are driving America down the highway to hell in a truck loaded with handbaskets must have cringed inwardly when Limbaugh started talking about the new line of Triple Double Oreo cookies from Kraft and began insinuating President Obama...

BANGKOK – Thai authorities said Friday they arrested an American citizen on charges he insulted the country's monarchy, in part by posting a link on his blog four years ago to a banned book about the Southeast Asian nation's ailing king. The man is also suspected of translating, from English into Thai, portions of "The King Never Smiles" — an unauthorized biography of King Bhumibol Adulyadej — and posting them online along with articles he wrote that allegedly defame the royal family, said Tharit Pengdith, who heads the Department of Special Investigation, Thailand's equivalent of the FBI.
