But didb't Robert Novak report that in his visit to Bethlehem, he couldn't find a single christian who felt threatened by local muslims? He could only find christians complaining about israeli policies. He's a dangerous pig.
While I appreciate Mayor Koch's views expressed here, he is not always so sensible. If you remember, his defense of himself in supporting President Bush in 2004 to angry democrats was, "don't be mad, I'm for Hillary next election."

That's the whole point. It's very easy to imagine this becoming a campaign issue. If the mass media refuses to explain issues like stem-cell research beyond the superficialities, they would just love to run with this as an issue of plain homophobic discrimination.
Who would be the first to run a front-page story on Obama sympathizing with gays on the basis that blacks' blood was once considered inferior.
Some of the comments in this thread are really sick. Deport someone for not shaking hands? I live in a community that's majority orthodox jews, who I have friends among and interact with everyday. I learned a long time ago that women don't shake hands or touch men that aren't family. It never crossed my mind to be insulted or to think that a woman wasn't qualified to be running a business because after my transaction she didn't want to shake my hand. With all of the legitimate reasons for westerners to criticize, this one is just ignorant and gratuitous. Do you want to deport me because when I go to a ceremony in a church for a friend, I don't kneel?

He is currently Executive Editor of the Intermountain Jewish News, in Colorado. www.ijn.com . You can find some of his columns in the archives there. Also, Jewish World Review used to publish him occassionally, but I haven't been following JWR lately.
