I’ve read that the ultra-temperamental Mingus walked out of the sessions several times in frustration.
Duke, Monk, and Mingus (in that order) were the three greatest jazz composers, imo. Monk and Mingus had screws loose, but they were brilliant.
As far as sax players go, my faves include (in no particular order): Johnny Hodges, Coleman Hawkins, John Gilmore, Pat Patrick (father of former MA Gov., Deval Patrick), Stan Getz, Don Byas, Harry Carney, Pepper Adams, …among others.

Phenomenal is right. Longtime fan of this album. Mingus and Roach prodded Ellington into new jazz territory, and it all worked, despite some tense and awkward musical moments.
I also recommend Duke’s collaboration with Coleman Hawkins from the same period (early ‘60).
I’d wager that Emhoff supports the Biden-Harris regime’s policy of sanctions relief for Iran, which made them over $100 billion richer, financing both their nuclear program (which is aimed at destroying Israel) and the Oct. 7 attacks, the deadliest and most brutal against Jews since the Holocaust. And Emhoff undoubtedly also supports the current Biden-Harris policy of not allowing Israel to purchase certain weapons from us that would be effective against the Dems’ favorite terrorist org, Hamas.
AOC deeply saddened and freaked that her terrorist bedfellows were embarrassed yet again, are without the ability to communicate effectively, and are now deathly paranoid about being near any electrical or battery powered device. Poor jihadi whore.
