Like the Tea Party, Liberty Day began in the 90's before politicians like Obama was on the radar screen. This is one more event we can celebrate as we oppose big government. When is Liberty Day celebrated? Liberty Day is celebrated annually on March 16th, the birthday of James Madison, who: • Helped write the Virginia Plan, the basis of discussion for the creation of the U.S. Constitution; • Kept detailed notes on those debates in the Constitutional Convention of 1787; • Wrote many of the articles in support of that new Constitution, which became known as the "Federalist Papers"...

Denver dailies, like others around U.S., find little room to cover continent's woes Speaking at Kent Denver School last Saturday, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright bemoaned what she saw as lack of American support for sub-Saharan black Africa (The Denver Post, June 12). The same criticism might be leveled at the media, for its neglect of African events. A June 14 commentary headline in The Christian Science Monitor asked, "In Congo, 1,000 die per day: Why isn't it a media story?" The Monitor noted that absence of reader interest is the standard explanation. After all, newspapers have a finite...

About Us: Our vision is a Republican Party that is unified by the basic tenets of fiscal responsibility and personal freedom, but that allows for diverse opinions on social issues by its members. IMP-PAC is chaired by Christie Todd Whitman, a lifelong and loyal Republican and a leader of the party’s moderate wing, who served in the Bush cabinet as the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency from January 2001 to May 2003. Prior to that, she was the first female elected governor of New Jersey, serving two terms from 1993 to 2000. Advisory Board: Congressman Mike Castle (R-DE) Susan...

I'm posting here because I received it this morning from one of my committeewomen here in Denver. Intimidation must be confronted by all of us and I can only hope this is not happening in every state. I have sent copies to various people here in CO and I'm posting her email and my addition here so you will know some of the issues we are facing.

It is disappointing that NewsMax is using bait and switch to sell products. They are offering a deck of wessels deck of cards for $14.95, discounted from the price of $19.95. The cards are funny as heck, too, and I planned on ordering two sets. They advertise "FREE OFFER – Get these Cards and the USS George Bush cap FREE just, Click Here Now" Calling Newsmax, I was told I had to subscribe to their magazine in order to receive the free cap. So, the actual price would be $49. That, my friends is bait and switch. Needless to say,...

The Rocky Mountain News, Wednesday, February 5, 2003, p. 7A War backers to 'rally for America' Supporting Bush can help U.S. defeat terror, group says By Charlie Brennan (303) 478-8759? Rocky Mountain News Hey, hey, ho, ho, Saddam Hussein has got to go. Chants such as that may soon be raised in Denver, as supporters of a military strike on Iraq take to the streets in answer to anti-war activists who have been organizing vigils, marches and protests for several months. Americans Against Terrorism is staging what it calls an "anti anti-war rally" on the steps of the Colorado Capitol...

Below is an email I am sending to various state political parties to get feedback on problems, as well as pro and con thinking of their candidate selection process. I am posting it here to get more feedback from Freepers who might like to make comments or give me insight as to how their state handles candidate selection. I would like to get voter opinions, not just comments from state political party activists. I am initially sending this email to states that use a petition-only procedure for candidates to get on ballots. The other two ways are (1) paying a...

The Declaration of Independence is perhaps the most masterfully written state paper of Western civilization. As Moses Coit Tyler noted almost a century ago, no assessment of it can be complete without taking into account its extraordinary merits as a work of political prose style. Although many scholars have recognized those merits, there are surprisingly few sustained studies of the stylistic artistry of the Declaration.

Should former President Jimmy Carter visit Cuba? This is todays question. Worth voting on, IMHO.

A counterfeit America will be a highly limited America. Then Americans will have to cry for the government to rescue them. The present alternative being offered is individualistic: develop new energy sources now, including more oil drilling, opening a few thousand acres of the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge, and build the safer nuclear plants we now know how to build. A capitalistic program to supply abundant energy at market prices isn't on the liberal Left agenda, so it isn't on the Democratic party agenda. The attempted socialization of the privately owned public utilities in California, after state regulations drove them ...

May 21, 2001 TOM GREEN'S MISTAKE By Dorothy Anne Seese Tom Green has been convicted of polygamy in Utah. He reportedly has 5 wives and 25 children, and the families worked together to support themselves. Yes polygamy is illegal in Utah, but I would like to speak out in defense of Tom Green from the standpoint of current "marriage" practices in the United States. Fifty years ago, even thirty perhaps, there would have been no reason to question the Tom Green conviction. To me, there is every reason in the world to question whether this is "justice" ...

ROE V. WADE... ANALYSIS OF THE COURT'S OPINION, PART I ANALYSIS OF THE COURT'S OPINION, PART I By: Dorothy Anne Seese ...[T]he woman's right is absolute and that she is entitled to terminate her pregnancy at whatever time, in whatever way, and for whatever reason she alone chooses. With this we do not agree. [emphasis added] Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113, 153. Justice Blackmun, writing for the Court, did a curiously exhaustive amount of research dating back to the Persian, Greek and Roman empires to investigate the practice of abortion and the prevailing social and legal attitudes toward ...

Sept. 16, 2000 - Years ago, when I was a young U.S. Marine corporal, I served under a major who made this wise observation: "When the men are griping, you know you're OK. It's when they stop griping that you know you're in trouble." Well, they stopped griping a long time ago, or at least in this day of global e-mail, it's been driven underground. Al Gore and George W. Bush have been trading jabs about the state of the U.S. military under the Clinton/Gore administration, and much of the debate, rightly, centers on funding and readiness. (More on that ...

The prime-time candidateGore’s Gulf War vote hinged on key TV slotby Alan SimpsonDenver Rocky Mountain News, Sunday, September 3, 2000, page 5BAl Gore’s new campaign ad is running across the country now and says he is "fighting for us." But the true story of his Gulf War vote in January 1991 says he is usually fighting for Al. Here is the inside story of what happened. The Gulf War vote was pretty serious business. I can’t think of anyone who didn’t have a lump in his or her throat while weighing the situation: 500,000 Americans troops already deployed; Saddam Hussein promising ...

By Charley Reese Commentary Published in The Orlando Sentinel on July 23, 2000 I've given up on the Constitution. After all, the Constitution and the republic of sovereign states it created were destroyed in 1865. But I still have some hope for the Bill of Rights, those first 10 amendments. For that reason, I intend to vote for George W. Bush. He's the only candidate with a chance to win who hasn't indicated that he views the Bill of Rights with utter contempt. Yes, my conservative friends, I know that Pat Buchanan would make a better president. But Pat ...
