The national debt tripled under Ronald Reagan.
That deficit figure is misleading.
The national debt increased by $575 billion in FY 2006.
The president submits a submits a budget request to congress.
The congress either approves or disapproves it.
The budget for fiscal year 2009 was submitted by President Bush on 4 February 2008.
And fiscal year 2009 began on 1 October 2008 during the Bush Administration.
The CBO projected a $1.2 trillion deficit for FY 2009 on 7 January 2009.
This was two weeks BEFORE Obama took office.

Don’t you think that Republicans who claim they are fiscal conservatives should balance their budgets?
But no Republican has balanced the budget since Eisenhower.
Exactly.
Cutting taxes while engaging in two war and greatly increasing spending for domestic programs led to a MASSIVE budget gap which created the problem we have now.
People need to admit the obvious.
The national debt increased by $575 billion is FY 2006.
So that deficit figure means nothing.
From January 2001 to January 2007.
The Repubs controlled both the House and Senate.
And domestic spending skyrocketed.
I voted for President Bush twice and McCain in 2008.
But I just don’t think the GOP has really been fiscally conservative at all.
That does NOT make me a fan of Obama.
I was just thinking about what the GOP did when they had control.
Medicare Part D, No Child Left Behind and more domestic programs.
It skyrocketed our national debt.
Yes I made a typo.
The Republicans had control of the House and Senate until January 2007. That is what I meant.
I am just pointing out that the past 3 GOP Presidents have been big spenders.
The Democrats are big socialist spenders. There is no doubt about it.
But Republicans had control of the House and Senate from January 2001 to January 2009.
There is no reason the debt should have skyrocketed under their leadership.
Fiscal Year 2009 ran from 1 October 2008 to 30 September 2009.
This was President Bush’s last budget.
He is responsible.
That would be the Gun Control Act of 1968 (Public Law 90-618).
Signed by President Johnson on 22 October 1968.
It prohibited convicted felons from purchasing or possessing firearms
