SALISBURY — Police Chief Jerry Stokes on Tuesday delivered a brief statement about an incident involving a K-9 and a police officer and didn’t take any questions from reporters. Stokes said the video involved a “K-9 training” and that the officer involved has been “administratively separated” from the K-9. The original video was published by Charlotte TV station FOX 46 and then removed from its website. DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit police are working to identify 10 or 12 people behind a vigilante mob attack that left a 54-year-old man clinging to life after he allegedly struck a child who had darted into the street. As first reported by WWJ Newsradio 950, an 11-year-old boy suffered a broken leg when he was hit by a pickup truck after he walked into the street near Morang and Cadieux. When the driver got out of his car to check on the boy, about a dozen men on the scene attacked him, beating him unconscious, according to police.

SALISBURY — A 92-year-old retired minister has filed a civil complaint against a Salisbury Police officer claiming the officer used unreasonable force in tackling him and breaking two bones. The Rev. J.W. LANDIS — A Rowan County school bus driver remains in jail today after Landis Police say he allowed students to smoke marijuana on the bus. Police say it wasn’t the first time he allowed students to smoke on the bus. Brian Davis Overcash, 30, was charged with four counts of misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The incident occurred Feb. 20 after Corriher-Lipe Middle School assistant Principal Matt Krome contacted authorities. The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office says it will start requiring mental health background checks for anyone applying to buy a handgun. The application already asks whether the person seeking the handgun permit has ever been committed to a mental institution. But until now, the Sheriff’s Office had never verified the answer.
