  • Military Helicopters (NOT Black) Over SoCal - San Gabriel Valley (Vanity)

Okay, anyone else see/hear all the miltary helicopters over the San Gabriel Valley this afternoon and evening. They're not black and I'm relatively sober. Four flew over my truck at about 300 or 400 ft on the 10 FWY at about 4:00 p.m. today (heading west). Rattled my truck at 70 MPH. Looked like two Chinooks(?) and two smaller, single-rotor ones (sorry, I'm not a rotorhead). Since then they've been back and forth, east and west across the Valley rattling the it's-a-melman estate in Glendora. Anyone have any idea what's up?

NY Punk Venue CBGB Faces Closure Over Unpaid Rent Mon Mar 7, 4:20 PM ET NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York's legendary rock club CBGB, which helped launch everybody from Blondie to the Ramones, faces closure if it does not resolve a dispute over unpaid rent with the homeless charity that owns the building. AP Photo   Club owner Hilly Kristal said the dispute dated from 2001, when the landlord presented a $300,000 bill for unpaid rent. Though most of that has now been repaid, the club was handed another bill earlier this year for $76,000 which CBGB has...

Top of the fold -- Pathology of the Left...In 2003 the American Psychological Association printed a study by a few academicians from Cal-Berkeley and the University of (the People's Republic of) Maryland. The study, entitled "Political Conservatism as Motivated Social Cognition," purported to have identified some determinants that are common to those holding a "conservative" worldview. As one reads the report, it becomes readily apparent that their "norm" -- that is, their control group -- was somewhere to the left of SanFranNan Pelosi and her Ya Ya sisters, Babs Boxer and Di Feinstein -- but then, what are we to expect...

Robbie Williams , Michael Jackson , Queen, The Rolling Stones and Cliff Richard have been chosen by the British public as the best music acts of the past five decades. The musicians, each representing a decade in the last half of the 20th century, were inducted into Britain's first music hall of fame along with honorary members Madonna , Bob Marley, Elvis Presley, U2 and The Beatles at a ceremony in London. The honorees were selected by a public vote by Channel 4 television, which invented the British hall of fame. So far, there's no building. Williams, 30, won the...

Guitar World Names 100 Worst Riffs, Solos (AP, 10/08/2004 11:12 AM) He may be known for his over-the-top antics but Poison guitarist C.C. DeVille has another claim to fame: his "Guitar Solo" has been named the worst of all time by Guitar World magazine. The magazine selected the "100 Worst Riffs, Licks & Solos of All Time," identifying ones that are "lazy," "boring," "just plain stoopid," or "involve C.C. Deville." The list includes songs by David Bowie , Def Leppard, Metallica , Green Day, B.B. King, The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Aerosmith and The Strokes, among others. Many are guitar...

Police: terror cell had smoke detectors LONDON, Oct. 3 (UPI) British authorities have said they believe suspected Islamic terrorists were harvesting radioactive materials from household smoke detectors. Time magazine reported that following the arrest of a suspected terror cell in August, British police discovered large amounts of smoke detectors that contain small amounts of americium-241. They believe the group planned to use the radioactive element to construct a primitive dirty bomb. U.S. officials have said it's extremely unlikely that enough americium could be harvested from smoke detectors to create a device potent enough to inflict radiation sickness, let alone kill...

RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING E-MAIL TODAY: Praise St. Charlton and Pass the Ammunition: April 20th came and went without much noise this year. You know, Hitler's birthday, the Oklahoma City Bombing, and the Littleton massacre-all days associated with April 20th. These last two incidents made me think about all the debate about where we're headed as a nation. And how the debate has stopped after the news value of those incidents faded. After the Littleton massacre, gun control was a hot topic again, and heats up every now and again. Especially when children are involved as either victim or perpetrator. But...
