Wow, most of you have some pretty naive views of Chicago. It is corrupt? Sure, but no more so than every other big city. Is is crime-ridden? Sure, in parts of the city but no more so than any other big city. Is the weather bad? It gets a little cold in the winter but it isn’t any different than any other US city above the 40th parallel.
Obama and his cronies are not going to profit off of the Olympics if they come to Chicago. All of the land that will be used is public land. Chicago bylaws dating back to the 1880s make the entire lakefront property of the city. The construction companies that will win the bids to do infrastructure and site projects are Daley cronies, not Obama cronies.
Will the Olympics cost Chicago/Cook County/Illinois taxpayers? Absolutely, but on the other hand, businesses in Chicago will absolutely do well during the games as well as two or three years leading up to them.
I am a lifelong Chicagoan and am more than happy to show the world that our city can host an enormous event and pull it off exceptionally well.
