We bought our son a Tandy 64 back in the 70s. This led to a computer science degree and today, an engineering consultancy in Seattle. We still turn out some pretty good brains.
I liked spending time in Calgary and Toronto when I was in the oil trade.
I was always the guest of one of the Canadian oil companies at the Stampede and had two or three customers and a supplier in Toronto. One year, I was invited to golf with guys from Suncor at Glen Abby, home of the Canadian National Tournament. This is a profession course (read hard) with one par 5 that offered a second shot off a cliff !
Things did not begin well for this outing. I was snagged by the course warden for wearing improper attire (golf shorts) and encouraged to buy a more conservative pair of golf trousers at the pro shop. $240 !
I think I turned in a 140 for the 18 holes. My name ended up on an “outstanding rookie” plaque, presented at dinner in the CN tower, which more or less made up for the morning fiasco.
No issues as of yet and the system is 12 years old. The wells contain sleeves, like heavy fire hose material, so the antifreeze mixture is in a closed loop. The unit is a Water Furnace brand.
We explored several suggestions for heat/AC with economy as a primary consideration. The whole system cost about $21 K for a 2700 sq. ft two story house. Best Andersen windows, super insulation in the roof and outside walls, caulk all the switch and receptacle boxes; in other words, seal it up tight. We have an energy recovery ventilator in the furnace room that we run when there is a lot of cooking or when we have a few guests.
In 12 years, we've had one service call for a fuse replacement (I keep a spare and can do this myself now...)
