  • Donald Trump and Government Theft

“Where there is a wrong, there is a remedy.” — Justice Benjamin N. Cardozo (1870-1938) Last week, a New York court ordered the Trump Organization and its principals — including the former President — to forfeit nearly $400 million to the state government. This gargantuan punishment was not for any crime committed or harm caused by the defendants. Rather, it was government theft at its worst. Here is the backstory. When U.S. Supreme Court Justice Benjamin N. Cardozo described the basic principles of tort law in one easy line, he was reflecting upon centuries of Anglo-American jurisprudence. His dictum of...

Several years ago my younger brother came down with a rare condition, and nearly died. After I posted here requesting prayers, the warriors came through, and he did improve, his illness went into remission and he was able to live a normal life. The illness (Wegener's Granulomatosis, an autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks [in this case] the sufferer's organs) has returned with a vengeance, and he is currently in his third hospital in 5 days with complete renal failure.

This is the most disappointing speech I have ever watched. What happened to her? I thought her job was to rebut the lies and obfuscations of Brandon. All I heard was stories about her time with The Donald.

British Columbia is making it mandatory to wear masks in public spaces while social interactions will be under new restrictions until Dec. 7 because of a surge in COVID-19 cases. Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry earlier imposed restrictions on social gatherings in areas covered by the Fraser and Vancouver Coastal health authorities, but says COVID-19 is spreading to other places and the order will now be provincewide. Henry says the previous measures have failed to decrease the number of cases and the health-care system is under strain.

  • FIRE SERVICE ADMITS THEY MADE A MISTAKE BUYING FIRE ENGINES WITH THE WORD ‘MAN’ ON THEM

    11/15/2019 9:01:03 AM PST · by Don W · 36 replies
What with all the kerfuffle recently over tissue manufacturers calling one of their products ‘mansize’ and, in doing so, offending people who really should perhaps have more important things to worry about, a fire service based somewhere in the UK has (not) confirmed that they are going to remove the word ‘MAN’ from the front of their fire engines. In the context of fire engines, the word ‘MAN’ (found on the front of the vehicles) actually refers to the company (Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg) that build and supply the fire engines as opposed to referring to any of the 3,000 sexes which...

Air Canada is apologizing to passengers who found themselves rerouted late at night to Fredericton with nothing to eat - that is, until a WestJet pilot stepped in to buy them pizza, one of which is shown in a handout photo from passenger John Samms. The passengers were on a flight from Toronto to St. John's, N.L. on Feb. 8 when bad weather forced the plane to be rerouted to New Brunswick - See more at: http://www.timescolonist.com/westjet-pilot-orders-pizza-for-rerouted-air-canada-passengers-in-fredericton-1.9951230#sthash.DvPwbdH4.dpuf

FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS, states have quickly adopted most building safety features blessed by the Washington-based nonprofit that recommends minimum codes for the nation. But that’s not what happened after the International Code Council decided in 2008 that every new American home should have fire sprinklers. Fire Fight Far outside DC, there’s a campaign finance fight taking place over fire safety. And it’s putting families at risk. Instead, a review by ProPublica shows, U.S. homebuilders and realtors unleashed an unprecedented campaign to fend off the change, which they argued would not improve safety enough to justify the added cost....

By now, everybody knows we are in the midst of an epidemic of overweight and obesity in Canada and around the world. There is a horrifying series of maps showing the rate of obesity spreading like a red stain across Canada over the past 30 years. In its latest fact sheet, the World Health Organization reports that “worldwide obesity has nearly doubled since 1980” and that “35 per cent of adults aged 20 and over were overweight in 2008, and 11 per cent were obese.” In Canada, it is much the same. The Public Health Agency of Canada reported in...

A rescued yellow Labrador retriever mix was popularly named Reagan by Rick Scott Facebook fans as the now Florida governor campaigned in the 2010 close election against Democrat Alex Sink. Unfortunately, Reagan's photos disappeared shortly after Scott was sworn in on January 2011, reports the Tampa Bay Times. So what happened to Reagan the rescue pooch? Introduced as the newest addition to the Scott family back then, all sorts of dog friendly and Rick Scott photos were plastered everywhere. Of course, animal advocates love that kind of compassion; statistics reveal that 39% of Americans have at least one dog in...

Victoria Police Chief Frank Elsner wants to meet with the Integrated Road Safety Unit after a ticket issued by one of its members led to a storm of reaction on social media and in the community. Debbi Ferguson, a military veteran of 20 years, was pulled over by an IRSU officer as she and a number of other drivers accompanied the body of Pte. Steven Allen from Victoria International Airport to a funeral home on Remembrance Day. Allen, a 20-year-old Victoria High School graduate, died Nov. 3 in a training exercise in Wainwright, Alta. FERGUSON, George What to say about George? Certainly, no one could accuse him of having been a loving son, brother, or father. He'd gladly have stolen the shirt off your back and he was generous to a fault with other people's money. Was he a small-time con-man with grandiose schemes? Probably. But another view of him is that he was the most exciting member of his family and of the families he married into. He was a poor man's rhetorician who beguiled certain woman into buying into his promises and dreams. This latter view is lent some support by the...
