A South African court has blocked the government from buying 11 million Chinese condoms, saying they are too small, a newspaper reported Friday. The finance ministry had awarded a contract to a firm called Siqamba Medical, which planned to buy the Phoenurse condoms from China, the Beeld newspaper said. A rival firm, Sekunjalo Investments Corporation, turned to the High Court in Pretoria after losing the bid, arguing that their condoms were 20 percent larger than the Chinese ones. Judge Sulet Potterill blocked the deal with Siqamba, ruling that the condoms were too small, made from the wrong material, and were...

My dad says that there is no one better to ask for help with my homework on the U.S. Constitution than the patriots of the Free Republic, so please help. I am in 4th grade at a public school. Dad is at work tonight. One of the question on my homework is: "Do you think that the framers of the Constitution would recognize their handiwork in the current United States? Use information from the selection as well as your own opinion." My teacher is a lunatic liberal and I want her to have a cow when she reads my answer...

By TIMOTHY LOGUE, tlogue@delcotimes.com RADNOR — Luther H. Smith, a World War II pilot who flew 133 combat missions over Europe as a member of the famed Tuskegee Airmen, died Wednesday morning at Bryn Mawr Hospital. He was 89. A longtime resident of Villanova, Smith dropped out of the University of Iowa in 1942 to join the U.S. Army Air Corps. “Before World War II began in 1941, black Americans were not accepted in military aviation and I wanted to be a military aviator,” he told the Daily Times in a 2007 interview. “We performed much better than anyone thought...

On the improbability of the Huck candidacy, I was in a cab today listening to Rush (my cabbie: "I like to listen to Rush because sometimes I like to clean my ear passages out with hot air") and he played the following Huck soundbite from yesterday's debate: HUCKABEE: The first priority of the next president is to be a president of all the United States. We are right now a very polarized country, and that polarized country has led to a paralyzed government. We've got Democrats who fight Republicans, liberals fighting conservatives. The left fights the right. Who's fighting for...

After seven Democratic presidential candidates debated on Nov. 15, CNN treated us to a debate of eight Republican hopefuls on Nov. 28. The transcript of the debate numbers 25 pages. Its first major subject is “illegal immigration,” which runs to Page 10, or about a third of the debate. Illegal immigration? The word “state” in the political sense (as in “the United States of America”) implies that foreigners cannot come to and live in a “state” as they could on land owned by no one. Otherwise, the “USA” should have been called “NOLA,” “No One’s Lands of America.” Nineteen foreigners...

Only weeks after voting for a resolution that "recognizes the Islamic faith as one of the great religions of the world," nine Democrats in the U.S. House refused to vote for a Christmas resolution that condemns the worldwide persecution of Christians. U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Colo., was on the list of those who endorsed the statement recognizing Islam but refused to support the Christmas resolution that noted the holiday "is celebrated annually by Christians throughout the United States and around the world." The Christmas resolution, like the Ramadan resolution, decried the violence that targets religion around the world. A spokesman...

Steve Elliott, the president of Grassfire, says he still wants to know, "Where's the fence?" Elliott, in a telephone interview, told WND an amendment submitted by Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, for the Department of Homeland Security 2008 budget would gut the already-approved Secure Fence Act, which was adopted with the promise hundreds of miles of physical fencing would help secure the U.S. border with Mexico. But the budget bill now in a conference committee contains the Hutchinson amendment, and Elliott says it simply would drop the requirement for the security project. "After the Secure Fence Act of 2006 was...

The occasion prompts us to republish Murray Waas' prize-winning article for the Arkansas Times in 2002 about the extraordinary steps Gov. Mike Huckabee took to help win Dumond's freedom. He has since blamed others for Dumond's release to kill again, but his actions over many years demonstrated his support for Dumond and, ultimately, the instrumental role he played in the parole board's decision to free him. Special handling How the Huckabee administration worked to free rapist Wayne Dumond. By Murray S. Waas “I signed the [parole] papers because the governor wanted Dumond paroled. I was thinking the governor was working...

Of These Presidential Candidates, Only ONE Consistently Believes in a Federal Ban on Abortion We live in a country that revolves around rights and freedoms. We have the right to make certain choices about our lives, we have the freedom to do so. However, those rights and those freedoms come to an end when they affect someone else's rights. Our freedoms do not give us the right to take someone else's right to their own property by stealing. Our freedoms do not give us the right to drink irresponsibly, get behind the wheel of a car, and kill someone in...

Ann Coulter discusses Huckabee on Neil Cavuto's program. Note the Freudian slip by Cavuto, "Hick." Questioner Jay Fox: As in any small town, we like our big guns. (cocks gun) Don't worry you can answer any way you like. Duncan Hunter points out the safety infraction the questioner committed. Man, he's like a loveable grandpa. Another questioner asks Rudy why he felt gun owners should have to pass a written exam. Rudy: We have to be very aggressive about the gun laws that exist. I enforced all laws aggressively. What I believe is that the Second Amendment ensures a right to bear arms, and government can issue reasonable regulations. (Gets booed.) He cites criminal background...

So you're looking for the true conservative, the total package of fiscal restraint and moral rectitude, the man who makes you turn to the bedside portrait of Ronald Reagan and say, "You'll always be the one. But I know you'd want me to be happy." It has been a difficult search and, by most accounts, remains so. When the Republican candidates for president gather tonight in St. Petersburg for the CNN/YouTube debate, each will be vying for the love of the conservatives who dominate the GOP's primaries and caucuses, which begin in barely six weeks. So what's your type? A...

What the Chinese are buying with American trade dollars"I'm Congressman Duncan Hunter. A few weeks ago when this Song Class Chinese submarine emerged next to one of our aircraft carriers about 80 miles off Okinawa, it shows the American people what the Chinese are buying with American trade dollars. They're cheating on trade and they're buying ships and planes and missles with our money as well as taking millions of jobs. Join me at Peace Through Strength for fair trade."
