  • The stupid party and the evil party

The basic purpose of Conservatives is FREEDOM! These people want freedom for themselves and their friends and family. They want to be able to work, earn a living, raise a family, and build a life. They agree to fund the legitimate functions of government to protect their freedom, but believe they deserve to keep most of the fruits of their labor. They agree to have enough laws to keep criminals from exploiting them, but bristle at laws trying to manipulate their own behavior. They also learn very early that a key necessity for freedom is personal responsibility, for without that freedom quickly disappears.

The basic purpose if liberalism is CONTROL! A key deficiency in liberalism is an immature sense of personal responsibility. Liberalism starts in childhood where everyone is immature on responsibility and liberalism sounds great! Liberals devise social programs with great benefits that are wildly popular but are financially unstable and discourage personal responsibility.

The liberal will soon get the idea that something is needed in the area of responsibility or their popular programs will blow up. However, they believe responsibility is something which must be placed on others to get those people to behave correctly. A liberal's two favorite words are "mandatory" and "forbidden".

The totally opposite purposes of these two groups continue to grow and fester until they eventually become the evil party and the stupid party. As the young liberal becomes more aware, they realize that the controls they believe are necessary for their popular programs will be very unpopular with the general population, so they devise ways to have it look like the conservatives are doing it. The liberals then attract the attention of the conservatives to the problem and get them to see that the controls will fix the problem. Naive conservative agree that the controls are needed and Viola! That completes the circle.

The classic example of this is Social Security. Everyone is forced to join it. The funding and payout schedules are patterned after a classic pyramid scheme, which would be illegal if anyone besides the government proposed it. When republicans point out that the trust fund would run dry in several years, democrats and the media scream that republicans are trying to take away granny’s social security check. Faced with this onslaught, the repubs cave, and agree to raise FICA taxes to extend the trust fund a few more years.

So the liberals are called the evil party because they sponsor unworkable programs and are trying to exercise hidden control of the populace. The liberals eventually can’t deny that their popular programs are destructive, but those programs keep them in power. They want the controls, but they maneuver to blame shift so they can avoid the responsibility. The conservatives are the stupid party because they keep falling into the clever traps set by the liberals; accepting false premises, trying to deny the false charges, and looking like they are guilty. Well they are not guilty of evil but they are certainly guilty of stupidity.

Go back and argue for freedom and don’t get pushed off it. Stay on offense. Say the other side is the "mandatory" party. Don’t agree that controls are needed on social programs; that accepts the premise of the unstable programs. Point out that these programs and controls are destructive because they eventually blow up financially and they also destroy people’s integrity. At least then you will stop stepping in the same old traps.

  • Why Free Trade Works for America

The problem with "free trade" is that it isn't free. somebody pays! And right now the people paying are American citizens with domestically based businesses. Their businesses have a between 25% and 50% cost embedded in their business by our income tax system. It's like two people in a race, one person has to carry another 30% of his weight in a knapsack while the first only has to carry a tee shirt.

If you want fair trade as well as the mentioned advantages of free trade, change the taxing point from income to products. A product brought to market here will have the same tax in it regardless of its point of origin. People making products domestically will then be able to compete with foreign sources. Also, removing the yoke of income tax from our collective necks will free up billions currently wasted in the costs of forecasting, calculating, recording, collecting, tracking, managing, policing and disbursing income taxes.

I guess the only option left is to let law abiding, decent people to have the right to defend themselves. That would mean that we don’t allow large killing zones, also called gun free zones to be created by the politically correct and functionally stupid.

aarrghhh!!! Reading those quotes from those "intellectuals" makes me feel like I just took a stupid pill, a really big one, probably as a suppository.

Let us take a moment to consider that these " intellectuals" are just barking dogs.

    There! that is much better!

Yes, that is no longer true that engineering is a worthwhile career in the US.. The money people have destroyed it. I have 2 engineering degrees and today that won't get you anywhere. Today I can get a contract position in no time that will last at least 3 months and pay about what I made in 1992.

Amen. Currently the pay rate for an engineering position in India is about $15,000/yr. Of course the cost of living is also about 1/3 of the average US urban location. Is it any wonder those visas fill up as fast as they appear.

"Taking 50% of my income or 50% of what I spend amounts to the same thing"

You miss the big picture. you are sitting here where income taxes are imbedded in the cost of everything made HERE but nothing made elsewhere. You get frustrated that the finished imported products sold in Walmart cost less that what it would cost to buy the raw materials here. There are two partys in the global market that supplies Walmart, domestic that pays all the taxes and imports that don't. You will slowly die of starvation unless that imbalance can be changed.

This may be anecdotal, but the dumbest person I ever knew as a child had an absolutely huge head, and unless he kept extra laundry or snacks in there, he also had a huge brain. He died in high school in a drowning accident. He was at a popular beach with lots of people around but no life guard, There was no energency or any warning, he just drowned.

Hey, maybe it was Joe Wilson. That would certainly make Woodward reluctant to discuss the matter: their entire liberal fantasy would disolve. This might be fun to watch.

"I agree with the notion that school administrators should not force children to take meds. I just don't want the feds to be enforcing this."

Well, what I see the feds doing is restraining the SCHOOLs from forcing a drugging of children on the parents. These parents can still choose to let their kids take those drugs if they think it is needed.

    "It costs a lot for a worker here to support his family";
Very true; and the reason it costs so much is because of the fixed costs in everything which is driven in by the income taxes. Here's how it works.
Worker "A" works at a factory making widgets. The widgets sell for $10 each and are popular and sell well. Politicians come along and say "we have a budget crisis and we need to increase taxes, but we will only tax the rich, not you workers." The workers think "OK, no problem to me" and vote to raise taxes. The workers go along with their jobs without any tax increase OK, but they notice that the widgets are suddenly drifting up in price... $14...$16...$18 and on. Also the price of Gas and groceries and clothes and rent and utilities and appliances is up sharply. Now the paycheck that the worker could live on adequately was not enough. The popularity of the widgets starts to drop due to higher prices and the fact that everyone else's budget is being squeezed. Work drops off at the factory as the sales of widgets drop. The company says that because of the financial pressures, everyone will have to take a 10% pay-cut or they will go bankrupt. The workers and everyone else is angry, but they all grudgingly go along. Then somebody starts importing widgets from China at $10 each and their sales start to go up again, except it also is accompanied with layoff notices at the factory.

The cruel irony is that the worker voting to screw the rich with taxes only screwed himself out of a job.

Please note that the start of the trouble was the tax increase which started a chain reaction through the economy. The politicians spend our tax money to get elected and they will not stop. The double whammy is that the sham of taxing only the rich hits the middle and lower classes even harder, just a few days later as the higher costs move through the economy. Then the triple whammy hits when a production source not within our borders supplies goods without the embedded tax costs. That is when the death spiral of our economy begins. The untaxed competition pushes wages down and the taxes [and regulation and lawsuits] push the cost of everything up. This is a classic "Must have/Can't have" game. We cannot win this game, the only smart move is not to play it.

Well if you put the tax burden on the product and not where it came from, the overseas production will not have the huge cost advantage it enjoys now. Jobs will follow the money and most will stay here, and many more will return. Its called free enterprise.
