The media is asking him one leading question after another in an effort to help him blame Republicans. At least he is smart enough to know that there is a video and if he attempts to push this off on the kids he will engender even more scorn then he has already earned.

I believe it was the Mirror which was so openly scornful of Americans and declared 59,000,000 of us stupid after Bush’s second election. Although the rest of the British press was a little more circumspect with their headlines, it was obvious that their contempt floated right beneath the surface.

Before you condemn Obama for dumping on this so-called ally, take a read on some british websites and get a glimpse of what the average Brit thinks of us. I don’t mean their left-wing sites obviously they are not blood pressure friendly, but try the Sun. It is eye opening, and good luck trying to find a brit with a kind word for any American. I have the feeling this will positively be the only thing that I will ever agree with Obama about.

Anyone was going to be better than Bush, but shoot, Mr. Hope and Change doesn’t satisfy them either. I have a middle finger that normally I would never use to express my opinion, but I will start flexing it especially for our british cousins. (spit)

You are right buccaneer, this is nothing new. I remember their contempt for Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and Jimmy Carter. They called Carter “that peanut farmer.” They hated Reagan and Bush regardless of what they did, and I had at one time thought that it was only confined to academe and their media, but not anymore. I believe these numbers in these polls. They are only confirmed by what I read in their newspapers today.

There was a time when I was learning history and was quite horrified by how long it took the US to join Europe in WWII.
The more I read the more I became convinced that our fathers and grandfathers knew precisely what they were doing. Europe has heaped scorn on the US and the American people since our birth, and then they wanted help? Really? And somehow they after all of the insults and abuse they felt entitled to that help too. Really?

If something were to happen in Europe today, I wouldn’t care a bit, nor demand that our government lift a finger to help them. American lives should never be sacrificed again for any European. The place could burn to the ground for all I would care.

I have argued with quite a few who think that they have every right “to have a say” in American politics and elections, because what happens here “affects the whole world.” I said pony up your tax Euros first and we'll talk.

The problem as I see it, is that we treat them as equals and believe that they are competent enough to have their elections without interference. How nice it would be if we got the same courtesy without comment, or opinions from them.

I was reading a British site last evening and it was buzzing with US election updates. (Actually, I was blown away by how much attention they pay to US politics.) The entire premise of the thread was how excited they are getting about the election and Obama’s presidency. One poster said that they, “want so much to have a reason to like America again.” An American on the site wrote that he thought it was too late for that, and that the damage was already done. I agreed with the American.

Does anyone even care what Europeans want or think anymore? I don’t dislike Europe, I dislike Europeans.

I simply can not vote for this person. I despise him more than I ever thought possible, and really don’t know what I’m going to do come November.

Did anyone hear Brit Hume’s comments about McCain going to Britain and #10? It was something like, John Mccain ventured into what many Americans think is “hostile territory.” I didn’t hear the whole thing, nor probably in the proper context, but it did surprise me.

I appreciate you taking the time, and making the effort to answer my post with such a thoughtful response. I disagree, however, with the idea that we should descard what people say on the internet, though, as I believe people are at their most honest when they can do so anonymously.

Calm down? I thought I was calm, but far be for me to know myself better than a Brit knows me. Calm down? Who do you think you are, John McCain? Calm down? Rush Limbaugh just said, “Calm down” is what you say to an unruley 6 year old. I agree with Rush, it is extremely patronizing, but not surprising considering the source.

Could you please tell me who does speak for the British people? I have often wondered where this very silent, and never seen “British people” live. Are they never allowed out to speak? Are they kept locked up somewhere? Why do we never see this “British people” that I am always told loves America. We never get to see them. Bring them out if you can.

One other thing that I find extremely amusing is how bent out of shape the British get over American entertainment and movies. Just think of this, American movies, made for American audiences, where wow, the American is the hero, not the Lithuanian, not the Estonian, but the American. What a concept, I wish I would have thought of it.

If your young people are so stupid, and your education system so lacking, that they are inclined to believe everything they see on the big or little screen then it is your problem. If your citizens can’t stand to watch an American movie without believing that it is “real,” if your citizens are incapable of watching an American movie without disparaging the source country then perhaps you should begin creating your own. The outcome would also suit your British sensibilities. Fix it over there, and stop whining about what other people do.

Am I supposed to feel terribly guilt ridden now and beg your forgiveness? Pass my best wishes on to your soldiers and my prayers too. Oh you might want to leave out the prayers, though. I made the mistake of being on a British site, and offering those prayers for your seamen and women who were captured by the Irans. I won’t repeat the names I was called, nor will I repeat the things that I was told I could do with my filthy American, Bible bashing prayers. Go lay your damn guilt trip on someone who might buy it.

If you are so mistreated by Americans you have the perfect option to leave. What are you waiting for? The EU will welcome you with open arms and treat you in a manner that you deserve. Go already, I hate long goodbyes.

You are assuming that all Americans were happy to have you “at our side,” however those of us who pay attention to what happens in Britain were anything but thrilled. Perhaps you will remember how the “master” rolled over for the “poodle” spending endless months at the UN accomplishing nothing other than to allow the opposition time to galvanize while we did the poodle’s bidding.

Anyone paying attention would know that the worse thing that we did was have you “by our side.” By having you “by our side,” we laid ourselves open to never ending carping, whinging, and whining. However, don’t take it personally, those who pay attention didn’t want anyone from Europe involved either. You damned hypocrites when has NATO ever come together to defend America? When has Europe ever shed blood to “help” America. The only time you know what NATO is for is when you are demanding help for Europe. American help and American blood. When it counts, Europe is totally useless.

Why is when the people of your country savage us we are expected to understand that that is how you show your “affection” and demand that we accept it in the spirit of “friendship?” What an absolute joke. We have nothing in common least of all our sense of humor. I have no idea why there are so many people who work so hard to keep together something that died and should have been buried 200 years ago.

I have no blind spot and wouldn’t sell you a ticket if I had one. Americans have always been fond of, and respectful to Europe and especially Britain. If in recent years you have are seeing a change in attitude by Americans towards Britain take pride knowing that you started it. What I have always thought is that America needs a taxpayer funded, government backed media outlet that runs around the world attacking Britain and slandering your people like the BBC does to us. Then we should ask our dear, dear British cousins, well, how do you like it? How long did you think you would party on our backs without paying a price?

Sh!t is what’s landing in your lap right now, and after decades of you dishing it out, I am delighted to see you get some of it back. I hope you can handle it as well as you expected us to handle and accept it for the last 60 years.

The only time that Britain has ever “liked” America is when that have a use for America. Otherwise they trash us as the garbage that they think we are. A popular British saying during WW2 while they lamented our being over there, they said, “The Americans are overpaid, over sexed, and unfortunately over here.” Charm isn’t exactly their forte, is it? Nothing that we did in WW2 was appreciated. Hell, it isn’t even mentioned in their history book anymore. I look forward to the day when Britain is another EU county and nothing more.

Why is it necessary for America to have allies? What we have are goals and interests if they mesh fine with other countries fine, then they can be allies, but most often I think you will find that we have nothing in common with Britain or indeed any of Europe. There are many in Europe who want to build a EU army to challenge American military might, and so I have been told to form and alliance with Russia and China to crush the US if necessary. Do your really want them as allies? Do you really want to share military technology with these back stabbers? I wouldn’t.

Please don’t call me mate, you are not my mate, not now, not in the past, and certainly not in the future. Makes my skin crawl.

Whoever said that it wasn’t a two way street? I didn’t. I have to admit to being pleasantly surprised by the amount of contempt for Britain that I do see on this forum. I can also say that it is a relatively new phenomena. Ten years ago, five years ago, there would not have been any hint of hostility or bitterness especially not towards Britain. But this is a brand new day.

That it now exists tells me that at least some Americans are beginning to pay attention to Britain and Europe and the crap that is sent our way. I’m glad that America is finally taking a long hard look at this so called relationship and are finding it sadly lacking. It’s heart warming....mate.

I am empathic, xJones, and there was a time when I had real affection for the British also. I have learned the hard way, that to know them better is to love them less, much, much less.

Apologize for what? Speaking their minds? Obviously you have never spent any time at any British sites, have you? Americans are regularly ripped, and it would be considered a good day if the only thing that they called us was “ball-less.” You grovel and pander to the British, the rest of us have better things to do with our time.

Oh, by the way my degree is in European History. They may have had a glorious history, but their progeny are whining, miserable nitwits, and totally useless to anyone including themselves.
