Bloody pandemonium erupted in the Borough Hall subway station in Brooklyn Tuesday night when a retired correction officer shot and killed an apparently unarmed man who had confronted him on a No. 4 train moments earlier, police said. The man who was slain, Gilbert Drogheo, 32, and another man began harassing the 69-year-old retired officer as he boarded a Brooklyn-bound 4 train at the Bowling Green station in Manhattan around 6:30 p.m., according to police sources and a witness.

Two cops patrolling a crime-ridden Brooklyn housing project were badly beaten by a group of men they tried to handcuff in a stairwell, police said. The attack happened as the unidentified housing cops were searching for a robbery suspect who was believed to be hiding in one of the buildings at the Marlboro Houses along West Eighth Street in Gravesend around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, authorities said.

BOSTON - A Massachusetts teenager's confession to police that he killed his math teacher cannot be used in his murder trial, a judge ruled Tuesday even as he allowed a bloody box cutter and other key pieces of evidence to be admitted. The ruling came in the case of 16-year-old Philip Chism, who has pleaded not guilty to raping and killing 24-year-old Danvers High School teacher Colleen Ritzer on school grounds in October 2013. Despite having been 14 at the time of the killing, Chism is charged as an adult.

(Reuters) - The U.S. Air Force on Wednesday kicked off a drive to attract and retain more women and minorities, including a push to increase the number of female officers and pilots. Air Force Secretary Deborah James announced nine measures that she said were critical to ensuring the Air Force's success, such as a web-based mentoring system, longer deferrals for deployments after pregnancy, and a 30-percent target for the percentage of females in the officer applicant pool, up from 25 percent.

Chris Johnson, the NFL running back cut by the New York Jets last month, was injured in a drive-by shooting early Sunday morning in Orlando, Florida, when an unknown gunman or gunmen pulled up alongside the Jeep in which he was a passenger when it stopped at a red light and opened fire. The assailants then sped off. When the shooting was over, Johnson was shot in the shoulder but the driver of the Jeep, 28-year-old Dreekins Oricko Johnson, was dead, according to news reports out of Orlando Sunday.

Two men were fatally shot in the Pilsen neighborhood early Saturday. Johnathan Ramirez, 18, and Santos Bueno, 22, were sitting inside a vehicle parked in the 1000 block of West 18th Street when a gunman walked up and opened fire about 1:30 a.m., authorities said.

Authorities have stepped up patrols in the neighborhood where Ahmed Al-Jumaili lived -- and died -- in their effort to find whoever killed the 36-year-old early Thursday as he and his brother watched the snow while Al-Jumaili's wife took photos.

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — A woman who was accused of killing her 80-year-old mother-in-law to get at her money pleaded guilty Friday to first-degree murder. She also admitted plotting to kill two witnesses. Diana Nadell, 51, of Cutler Bay, Florida, is scheduled to be sentenced in May to 23 years in prison. The mother-in-law, Peggy Nadell of Valley Cottage, New York, had been a county Democratic committeewoman and was outspoken on environmental and women's rights issues.

Officials said the woman exhibited unusual behavior and began making threatening remarks to responding officers. "They ran over to where the subject was, and that's when she began to yell in what appeared to be in Arabic language," said Zabaleta, "and then in English told the responding officers she had a bomb in her possession."

DORCHESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A woman was held without bail Tuesday in connection to the stabbing death of a Dorchester mom. Takisa Matthews, 30, was held without bail at her arraignment Tuesday afternoon. She was charged with the murder of 26-year-old Maria Sanchez, who was stabbed to death at an altercation outside a house party in October of 2014. Matthews was also charged with armed assault with the intent to murder for stabbing another woman, who survived.

A Weston parent urged the Broward School Board on Tuesday to fire a teacher he claims called his son a "rag-head Taliban.". Youssef Wardani said Maria Valdes, who teaches French at Cypress Bay in Weston, called his 14-year-old son a Taliban four times in class last month. "I want her fired," said Wardani. "As a parent I should not be spending my time in front of [the School Board], explaining to them what should have been done on Day One … My son is not a rag-head Taliban."

A 5-year-old boy was “screaming his lungs out” Sunday as he came “flying out of the door” of an SUV during a botched theft of a flat-screen TV from a Falmouth Wal-Mart by his mom and her boyfriend, according to police reports released yesterday. Eyewitnesses said they ran to help as the crying boy fell “out of the car onto the ground” and then got up and started to chase the SUV.

The girl's hand was stabbed during the fracas and she was taken for treatment to Broward Health North hospital in Deerfield Beach, Carter said. "This could have been much, much worse, because the mother of the bullied child was actually heading back to her vehicle to retrieve her firearm when we arrived on the scene," Carter said. Demps will be charged with felony possession of a firearm and aggravated battery, Carter said. The knife used in the stabbing belonged to Demps, and the other mother was also armed with a blade, according to the Sheriff's Office.
