I’m so sorry for your loss. My beloved Granad (never Grandad, he preferred it that way) passed in September of 2010. He served as a SeaBee in WWII. He would never speak of the specific areas or campaigns, and also told me the same thing, about it being the worst time in his life, so why would he want to remember. I respected his wish and didn’t press...I just wanted to honor his service.

What got me was at his funeral, my uncle (his executor) didn’t have a military funeral, no flag on his coffin, which infuriated me but I couldn’t fix it. My husband, however...an Airforce retiree from 24 years, SMSgt, and a proud, strong man...he waited until the service was over...most of the folks were chatting amongst themselves...then he took me by the hand, led me to the head of my Granad’s coffin, and performed one of the crispest salutes I’ve ever had the privilege of seeing. Honor was deserved, and honor was paid.

May your uncle rest in peace, and his memory be honored. Thank you for sharing your story.

While I'm glad the good doctor is home, we still have one soldier who is being held POW by the Taliban. Bowe Bergdahl was captured on June 30, 2009, and he is STILL THERE. He is alive, they occasionally post videos of him. His father is posting videos speaking to these people in their language, hoping to convince them to return his son. Why did this person rate a rescue in FIVE DAYS, while this young man is languishing away for THREE YEARS?? I realize there is much wrong with our leadership today...I just don't have words to voice my sadness over the loss of our SEAL and the continued captivity of Bowe. How many of you know of him? I'll wager not enough. Someone needs to get the message out; I'll gladly be the mouthpiece. More info: www.bringbowehomewod.com. I’d like to be in on this. I’m assisting our friend in running her small business; my husband has run his small business (now closed), and I’ve worked for both large and small businesses in the past. I’ve an MBA (not like it counts for much) but I am highly interested in writing/research/focus on the future. Count me in, if you would?
PS - I also volunteer for several Veterans Organizations, which can qualify for small businesses as well.
