  • Secession Petitions: Links to each state

As a Texan, here’s a couple of points to make about all this Secession business:

    1. Everyone is dismissing the petition for secession with “it must come from the state, and not the citizens”...Well, who compels the state, and the legislators? That would be the citizens...in the next state election cycle, I bet we have some politicians that go on the record in support of secession.

    2. “When Texas joined the union, it became bound forever and that agreement cannot be dissolved.” I’m sure it wasn’t legal in the eyes of the British when the colonies revolted and declared independence. A Declaration of Independence dissolves all previous relationships and contracts.

    3. Today Rick Perry said “Texas will not secede”. Since when is Texas independence up to Rick Perry? I don’t think he grasps the idea that with secession, all current political leaders will be relieved of their current duties and new elections will be held. No Rick, you don’t get to be President of Texas. Not yours.

    4. President Obama is in a pickle with this one...If he doesn’t respond, he remove’s all legitimacy from his “We the People” petition site. The mainstream media has picked it up, and people WILL notice. If he does respond with a resounding “No”, he risks it being interpreted as a challenge to Texas, and arrogant dismissal of the peoples wishes.

    5. “The US Military can be deployed to Texas to quell civil unrest.” Bad idea. The entire US military consists of roughly 2 million people. ALL of it. Every service, combined. The population of Texas is about 20 million people, with a gun ownership rate of about 40%....That’s over 7 million armed Texans, who probably aren’t going to be very happy with being “occupying force”. Good luck with that.

The most important part about the petitions are the symbolism and the message. Everyone here in Texas is a little bitter right now, and I expect the signature count on that one to top 200K in the next few days. Not something that can easily be dismissed or ignored.

    Could. Not. Resist.

The first thing you need to do is your homework.

What our troops are fighting now is centuries of traditional corruption. Apple pie and baseball are symbolic of America, corruption and thievery are Iraqi tradition. We’ve already won this one, regardless of what the MSM would like you to believe.

War takes patience, unless you want to go hardcore. (Read: Hiroshima/Nagasaki) Soldiers die fighting, that’s their job. Military service is not for the weak of heart, and that’s why the left hates it. If the whiners would relax the ROE, we could wrap this thing up by next Tuesday. But again, P A T I E N C E. Bush 41 stopped short, because he wasn’t into “Nation Building”. As it turns out, Bush 43 is.

America’s biggest problem with War is our lack of patience, and the sissy approach the media takes, and projects.

God Bless our troops, Pray for them, but most of all, be patient. They are getting the job done.

    Stay the course.

The Arab league has issued instructions barring the Arab states from granting citizenship to Palestinian Arab refugees (or their descendants) "to avoid dissolution of their identity and protect their right to return to their homeland".

If they are willing to treat the Palestinians as pure political pawns and third-rate citizens, (the illiterate thugs that they are) I don't think black farmers have a chance, regardless of religion. Another dirty secret the Arab world refuses to admit to.

Agreed. It's suspicious to me that her cancer flares up everytime Edwards needs some publicity.

God Bless and Good Luck to Mrs. Edwards, but holding a news conference to announce personal struggles is merely begging for the sympathy vote.

China is pretty far along in aircraft-carrier R&D - and could have one in the water by 2010. This isn't good news. Pffft...ONE carrier in the water by 2010? And it's their first one. The chinese build crap as far as military hardware goes, their stuff is a cheap rip-off of junk that doesn't work well anyway. (russian) Any naval or air confrontation in that neighborhood will result in the Chinese getting their ass handed to them. Wake me up in 20 years when they've got a viable, proven carrier group.

The MSM and the left so badly want to be the "hero" that we must become their "villian", regardless. It's nearly pointless to even attempt to dissuade them. I've taught liberals how to recycle, promoted vegetarianism to them (I am one), but as soon as they find out my political leanings, they start looking at me like I just shot their grandma and strangled a puppy in front of them. At this point, I find the facial expressions highly amusing.

It doesn't matter how I want to be percieved. They've already made up their minds based on ONE aspect of my personality. Maybe it's because they are so open-minded?

I find it frustrating that American intervention is expected to solve decades of violence and corruption, overnight. Wouldn't a simple "Thank you for helping us out of the dark ages" be nice every once in a while?

    Dear John Edwards:

As you may or may not know, the definition of a "civil war" is far more precise than you are aware of.

When you have an oppressed majority population (Shia Muslims) by a minority population (Sunni Muslims) there will be tension, especially if that oppression has continued for decades.
When the oppressed population is assisted in liberation, (ie. Operation Iraqi Freedom) there is going to be some "blowback", or "revenge".

The current population of Iraq consists of 80% Shia, and 20% Sunni. That's 8 vs. 2. (I'm trying to use little numbers and little words so you understand) That's not a "civil war". It's revenge killings, sectarian violence, and families just settling old scores. On any given day, an 8 vs. 2 fight is going to be a massacre, not a war.

The bombings our troops (Heroes) are "policing" are perpetrated by Sunni muslims in a futile attempt to remind the people that they must bow to violence and violent attacks. It's not working. The bad guys hate that. Just like you.

I will concede one point to you: Our troops are not policeman. But they adapt well.
They are much better at kicking ass and taking names. But from what I have read, deep down inside those hardcore infrantyman, those 11B's have hearts. I've seen it in their efforts. So have the Iraqi's.
Hell hath no fury like an Infrantyman on a mission, and Heaven has a battlefield for us when we get there.
