She even ordered him home from the golf course for an explanation, and he told the truth.

When Texas middle schooler Jordan Wooley recently highlighted a reading assignment that required students to deny God, school administrators, her teacher, and some students painted her as a liar. But a flood of support from residents across the state, including and Gov. Greg Abbott, is buoying her spirits as she heads to the Governor’s Mansion Saturday to share her story. Wooley, 12, testified before the Katy Independent School Board last Monday about a reading assignment at West Memorial Junior High in which her teacher instructed students to label statements as fact, opinion or commonplace assertion, which her teacher characterized as...

The journey comes with challenges big and small. Nabeel Hasan had to change his name, after officials spelled his name wrong on immigration documents. “It was double “s” but when they put it in the I-94, they put in one “s”. When I get the ID it must be the same,” he says. His three sons couldn’t join him today and remain in Iraq. With tensions high, he fears the worst. But he hopes one day they’ll join him in America. “This is my wish. Every day I ask God about that,” said Hasan. “We thank God and the United...

Most fans were still waiting outside when the order to evacuate came about an hour and a half before kickoff.

A special warfare exercise across parts of Texas and the nation will bring civilian role players acting as journalists, government officials and "guerrilla-chiefs." The U.S. Army Special Operations Command's Unconventional Warfare Exercise 16 (UWEX 16) is scheduled in at least three Texas counties for March through June 2016. It may take many readers back to Jade Helm 15, the SOC's seven-state realistic military training that riled some Texans' fears of federal preparations for martial law.

they're planning to restrict their training to private property and to Camp Swift. County Judge Paul Pape fully supported the new round of training. He says, "We were actually very pleased with the way the exercises came off last summer. There was not an incident." Commissioners noted there was a lot of nervousness and Judge Pape hopes Special Forces can do a better job of keeping that in check. He also added a couple of personal requests. Judge Pape says, "I did ask them to not have a catchy acronym as the title and to not have a map that...

Officials say there was a "a preponderance of evidence” that Township High School District 211, which is based in Palatine, Illinois, failed to comply with Title IX, the federal law that prohibits sex discrimination. The student filed a complaint with the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights in 2013 after she was denied the right to have unlimited use of the girls’ locker room, the Chicago Tribune reports. A solution appeared to be in the works, until school officials put up privacy curtains in the locker room and said the student would be required to use the private area...

Miller tried to remove the woman's shorts but she reportedly kicked him in the groin. Miller then forced himself on top of her and tried to kiss her, forcing his tongue in her mouth, the report states. The victim retaliated, and "bit his tongue as hard as she could until she heard it snap," she told police. That led to Miller moving away, screaming, she added. The woman said Miller's tongue was still in her mouth, so she ran from her home and threw it on the kitchen floor. She made it to her car and drove until she found...

A new commercial from Camden-based Campbell's Soup Company features two fathers feeding their son 'Star Wars'-themed soup has come under fire from critics, but the company says it was creating a real reflection of the American family in the contemporary United States. The commercial, a promotion ahead of the December release of 'The Force Awakens,' shows the fathers riffing on Darth Vader's bombshell 'Star Wars' quote: "I am your father!" The company developed the idea as part of its "Made for Real, Real Life" campaign, a tagline that aims to capture what's going on people's lives when they eat soup,...

Hip college students and grown folks alike are scratching their clover-laden heads wondering who got the idea to walk around with Frances Hodgson Burnett’s Secret Garden sprouting from their tresses. “I think this comes more from Western culture,” one student told the Times. “It’s fun, but I guess it’s also about protecting the environment, to show that you care about nature,” a peddler of the green headgear offered (which is interesting considering the country is one of the biggest polluters of out planet). But probably the best explanation came from a 24-year-old medical student, who best sums up how the...

Najdovski, a member of the Europe Ecology-Green (EELV) party, admitted he was disappointed that only one third of Paris was handed over to pedestrians and cyclists on 27 September... added: “My dream Paris would be a city without cars.
