A nurse who treated Ebola patients in West Africa and publicly fought quarantine orders in New Jersey and Maine after returning to the United States last month has decided to move away from her home state, a newspaper in Maine reported. Kaci Hickox and her boyfriend, Ted Wilbur, plan to leave Maine after Nov. 10, or the expiration of the monitoring period for the virus' 21-day incubation, according to the Press Herald newspaper.

A 29-year-old father who butchered his wife in a jealous rage and then hacked to death his two, slumbering toddler daughters was sentenced to 45 years in state prison on Friday, WPIX-TV reported. Before sentencing Miguel Mejia-Ramos, Queens Supreme Court Justice Kenneth Holder delivered an epic tongue-lashing against the killer. “It is truly difficult to find words to describe how sickened people are in this courtroom at the sight of you,” Holder said, saying what he did repulses even the most hardened of criminals. Delvin Barnes, the man suspected of abducting a woman in Philadelphia and a teenager in Virginia, was put on a suicide watch in a Virginia jail today. Barnes' arrest Thursday ended a five day manhunt following the violent abduction of Carlesha Freeland-Gaither off a Philadelphia street Sunday night. At his only court hearing, Barnes agreed to be taken to Virginia where there was a warrant for his arrest accusing him of the Oct. 1 kidnapping a 16-year-old girl, raping her and trying to kill her. The girl escaped.

Liam Palmer says his dream is to serve in the British Army. But the military won't accept the 21-year old with gaping holes in his earlobes from ear piercings, followed by stretching the skin with plugs. "I don't regret it. [Wearing ear plugs] was just a part of who I was," Palmer says about his younger counter-culture days of gelled hair, skinny jeans and ear plugs - also known as ear gauges or "tribal" ear piercings. A sister of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev pleaded guilty Tuesday to misleading a police detective during a counterfeiting investigation, avoiding jail time in an agreement with prosecutors. Ailina Tsarnaeva, 24, entered the plea in South Boston Municipal Court... prosecutors also considered separate charges pending against Tsarnaeva in New York, where she is accused of threatening to "put a bomb" on a perceived romantic rival.

On average, 12 new cases a day were seen in the rural areas surrounding Freetown in late October, compared with 1.3 cases in early September, the report said, a nine fold increase. Transmission was also increasing rapidly in the capital Freetown, with the average number of daily cases six times higher than two months ago.

A Bahamas-registered cruise liner that ran aground in northern Norway a few months ago did it again on Saturday, in sight of the pier where it was to be moored. The Norwegian rescue services say passengers had been allowed to leave the "Marco Polo" cruise ship, which was carrying more than a thousand people when it ran aground in the Lofoten archipelago early Saturday. Rescues services said they were hoping to pull the 176-meter (580-foot) "Marco Polo" free at high tide late Saturday. Tugboats and a coast guard vessel had tried in vain to free the vessel by pushing it...

"We give out food aid to around 1,400 people per day. We started on August 29 and more than a thousand volunteers are taking part in this operation at the moment," says 28-year-old Maria, helping to give out the parcels. A nurse from Central Texas has agreed to quarantine herself after working with Ebola patients in West Africa. The woman is not currently showing any signs of the disease, but her work is Sierra Leone places her at “some” risk according to CDC protocols, the governor’s office said in a release. The woman was met by state health officials after flying into Austin-Bergstrom International Airport early Wednesday. Her name is being withheld for privacy reasons, the state said. At the governor’s request, the nurse will be quarantined at her home and will be monitored twice daily by the Texas Department...

Police obtained CCTV footage on Monday from officials at Mile High Stadium in Denver to look for clues into the ongoing investigation of a man who vanished during halftime at the Broncos-Chargers game last Thursday. Because of patient privacy laws, they can't obtain confirmation whether the man has been admitted to the hospital. Bakke said she continues to call stadium officials. "And they keep telling us that there's nothing they can do for us," she said.

The defense also called former Massachusetts governor and 1988 Democratic presidential nominee Michael Dukakis to testify for Phillipos. Dukakis, an old family friend of Phillipos' mother, described a phone conversation he had with Phillipos five days after the bombings. Dukakis said Phillipos told him he had been questioned by the FBI for five hours, but was so confused he didn't remember what he said.

A patient who was transported to Emory University Hospital on Sept. 9 with Ebola virus disease was discharged from the hospital on Oct. 19, 2014. In coordination with the CDC and Georgia Department of Public Health, the patient was determined to be free of virus and to pose no public health threat. The patient has asked to remain anonymous and left the hospital for an undisclosed location. He will make a statement at a later date.

A Texas nurse who has Ebola indicated she "felt funny" and spent extra time resting during a visit to Ohio in the days before she was diagnosed in Dallas, a CDC official said Friday... "I would never have known that she was ill," Younker said. "There was no coughing, sneezing — nothing like that."... Dr. Chris Braden of the CDC told reporters. "But some more information that’s come through recently, we can’t rule out that she might have had the start of her illness Friday.

Amarillo TX- A patient showing Ebola like symptoms is currently in isolation at Baptist Saint Anthony's Hospital. The patient went to BSA Hospital at around 4:00 PM today. While he was there, he went through screening and the patient says he had been in contact with someone who had recently traveled to Africa. A healthcare worker is also in isolation.
