His voice grates on me like nails on a chalkboard. Those s’s alone are enough to drive me from the room. I neither heard one word nor watched one minute of that whole charade. I did see a replay of MO all grabby and high-fiving the man next to her. How did the cameramen know she was going to do that at that particular moment? When I saw it, my first thought was “Totally staged.”

My 77-year-old Mom just got out of the hospital with small clots in both lungs. Doing great now. The anti-clot meds dissolved them, and then drs. inserted a type of “filter” that prevents any future ones from entering lungs. Not sure of your wife’s age, but sometimes the filter or “umbrella” is the best option for older patients prone to falls, as blood thinners may actually complicate injuries due to a fall. Anyway, your wife is on my prayer list today!

I share Rush’s birth year and also lived in Missouri. Since the first time I heard him on air, I’ve been hooked and rarely miss a show. I sometimes wonder what all his former bosses think NOW! Happy Birthday, Rush!

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems the Ft. Hood tragedy was almost “downplayed” by comparison. I bet few people on the street could even tell you who Nidal Hasan is. Everyone, particularly Obama and the administration, was gingerly tiptoeing around his ethnicity and background.

In 1966, on my fifteenth birthday, horrible carnage occurred at the University of Texas, Austin, where a guy (Charles Whitman, Marine) went up in the tower and picked off people walking below, killing 16 and wounding 32. Before the rampage from the tower, he had murdered his mother and wife. One interesting aspect of this guy was that at his autopsy, an undiagnosed brain tumor was found. Some said it may have contributed to his emotional state.

There are going to be lone, wacked-out nutjobs out there who “obey the voices” and go on rampages. I live near Atlanta where a trooper stopping a guy for a busted-out headlight was shot dead by the driver, who had been in jail EIGHTEEN TIMES. If our PC culture/court system won’t deal with their bizarreness, the public’s best defense is to be on a somewhat level playing field with these monsters.

Now is no time for the Republicans to back off. Rather, it is the perfect opportunity to remind people that the following expressions are straight out of the mouth of Obama and the Democrats:

“If they bring a knife to the fight, you bring a gun.”
“Get in their face.”
“Boots on their necks.”
“Dead! Dead! Dead!” (spoken by Emanuel as he recited names and then thrust a KNIFE into the table)
I’m sure you can add more here . . . . . . .
And by the way, couldn’t a dead fish sent through the mail be construed as some sort of threat or intimidation?

I, for one, categorically reject this spin by the MSM and will refute it at every opportunity. I hope that Boehner and the R’s will do the same, loud and clear.

Obama also said something about “boots on the neck,” too. I knew it would take a millisecond for the Left to spin this awful tragedy and tie it to conservatives. Might be good to compile a list of the liberals’ hateful rhetoric that is filled with gun imagery and metaphors. Just whip it out when folks like your brother even SUGGEST that these killings are associated with this country’s conservatives.

I agree wholeheartedly, Rain Drop. His tears never bother me in the least or make him appear less of a man. Rather, it’s the opposite. Unlike Pelosi with her cold heart and dagger-shooting eyes, this man still has a soul and a sensitive heart. He came up the hard way and appreciates everything this country has allowed him to do. I do hope, however, that an unwillingness to compromise will come as easy to him as his tears do.

I’m no Harvard prof, but I am an adjunct English instructor at a university. I always try to include Hurston’s powerful fiction on my syllabus. Her story “Sweat” always creates lots of class discussion. But don’t read it at night right before you go to sleep!

One of my students in the online English course I teach reacted vehemently to the “racism” in Faulkner’s “A Rose for Emily.” She derided Faulkner as a racist because the “n” word appears in that story. Despite my best efforts, I was never able to convince her to evaluate fictional characters apart from the author. She indicated that the appearance of that one word in the story resurrected the pain she felt growing up in the South in the Civil Rights Movement. I even altered the paper assignment by suggesting that she write about racism in the story if it bothered her so much. Her unwillingness to read this “disturbing” author was a convenient excuse to not have to look beyond one offensive word in the story. She had been programmed to have sensitive antennae and to vocally, dramatically object. Finally, some of the other students basically told her to shut up!

This novel delighted me as a child. Even as a kid, I had the sense to know that the terminology was emblematic of a particular era and that the story actually extolled Jim’s virtues.

What’s next? Will these do-gooders go all the way and also expunge the novel of its “gender stereotypes.” After all, Huck dresses up as a girl but his male mannerisms betray him (by the way he threads a needle, throws things, and catches something in his lap). We wouldn’t want today’s kids being exposed to gender differences, now would we? After the PC police get done with this novel, there will be nothing left except a couple of boys on a raft. Oh wait, THAT’S dangerous, so better excise that part too!

From day one, I’ve thought of him as merely a parrot who has mastered the timbre and cadence of the human voice. But beyond that, there is no substantive core of real-world experience and hard knocks that are necessary to forge common sense and integrity. Additonally, his rhetoric is a caricature of lofty speech—what malleable hearers think eloquent speech should be. His hearers can attach whatever meaning to it they want. But a wise person knows that when a parrot says, “I love you,” it is only mouthing syllables and will not be capable of backing it up with actions or sacrifice. Obama’s promise to “be open to others’ ideas” is just pure theatrics, with absolutely zero truth. I think of Wright’s church, where every single statement, no matter how outlandish, is met with nodding, amens, and uh-huhs. The co-dependent symbiosis between Obama’s narcissism-fueled rhetoric and his hearers’ need for an overseer is almost as troubling as the man himself.

Right on, EBH. I’ll be 60 my next birthday, and I really resent being lumped in with the aging hippie movement. I was the total opposite in my teens,twenties, and all through adulthood—very conservative, never tried drugs, and (though no one will believe me) have never had a drink. In fact, my husband was a naval officer during Vietnam and returned to hoots and disrespect from the liberal fellow Boomers. Been busy with a 39-year marriage, four kids, and six grandkids. Been busy teaching college and trying to counter the constant brainwashing today’s students are subjected to. I don’t need know-it-alls to lecture ME about ANYTHING. If anything, THEY should be sitting at MY feet, learning a thing or two.

Just like the admonition for newscasters to use the term “undocumented workers” instead of “illegal aliens,” this bossy little know-nothing’s scolding makes me personally just dig in harder. Just because the “news” outlets run scared does not mean that I will stop speaking loud and proud whenever I so choose.

My elderly mom was a patient in what has turned out to be a substandard, almost third-world type hospital near Atlanta for a week. Standing in my mom’s room with a visiting relative (and with the curtain drawn between Mom and her roommate), I softly said to my relative, “Welcome to what Obamacare will look like.” My relative gave me the evil eye and tried to shush me, gesturing toward the other bed and mouthing, “She’s Black.” I replied, “I don’t care. It’s the truth. This is the level of ‘care’ that people will receive, all from staff who can barely speak English and who do a disappearing act when you need them.”

Turns out the other patient did not hear me. When I did meet her, she was as friendly as could be.

So yes, ABC, FYI I WILL use the term “illegal aliens” and I WILL speak truth and logic whenever and wherever I so choose.

Agreed. Additionally, Jesus never advised Believers to celebrate his birth. I have no problem with celebrating it, though, because it’s about the only time of the year conducive to presenting the gospel through music and word; however, we WERE instructed to “remember his death until he comes.” We’d do well to acquaint ourselves with the Feast of Firstfruits (aka Easter).

You beat me to it! I was just getting ready to say, “If Christmas trees make you sad, then why don’t we chug on over to namby-pamby land where we can find some self-confidence for you!”

Seeing snippets of this interview only RAISED my opinion of Boehner. As a female, I know that women crying sometimes makes them look weak and emotional, so I try to avoid doing so in most environments. But for some reason, when a tough guy cries occasionally, particularly when talking about his family and country, it strikes a chord. Sure beats B.O.’s inappropriate, chimp-like baring of the incisors.

Wow, you are a great, courageous mom. And in future years, your son will only grow in his respect, loyalty, and protection of you. I was raised in the 1950s and 1960s, and my mom did not hesitate to smack our mouth if we sassed her. Dad used the belt routinely (with restraint, of course); actually, the mere THREAT of the belt kept us in line. That era’s mantra was “Spare the rod, spoil the child” and “Children should be seen and not heard.” To this day, I monitor how I speak to my mom, and I’m pushin’ 60! I and my four siblings were saved from many a heartache by parental discipline.

The only thing more insufferable than a teenager who thinks he knows everything is a college kid who thinks he knows everything. But I guess many of us oldsters have been there, done that.
