  • Immigration move roils Nevada

President Obama's executive actions on immigration threw gasoline on the fire of border politics — and nowhere is it burning hotter than in Nevada, where incoming Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is gearing up for a tough reelection. Obama chose the Silver State, which has proportionately more illegal immigrants than anywhere else in the country, to begin a tour aimed at winning support for his decision to stop deportations for as many as 5 million people. His first shout-out in a Friday speech at a heavily Hispanic Las Vegas high school went to Reid, who has been emphasizing his...
  • Nevada opposes new arguments in gay rights case

Nevada will oppose an effort by opponents of same-sex marriages to get the full 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to hear arguments to ban gay marriage in the Silver State, Gov. Brian Sandoval said Wednesday. The Republican governor provided a quick answer to an appeals court call for briefs within three weeks from the state and an advocacy group that won the right to gay marriage on behalf of eight Nevada same-sex couples. Sandoval said Nevada will oppose the petition by the Coalition for the Protection of Marriage.

Critics say Nevada lawmakers are gambling with taxpayers’ money, but they clearly were in the minority Wednesday night as legislators moved forward with an unprecedented package of up to $1.3 billion in incentives they hope to approve in the days ahead to bring Tesla Motors’ $5 billion battery factory to the state. Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval urged legislators in the two Democrat-controlled houses to seize an “extraordinary opportunity” to land the electric car maker’s “gigafactory” and the tens of thousands of jobs he said would help pull Nevada from the worst economic crisis in state history. Legislative leaders, who convened...

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)There are 65 prominent people who might run for president in 2016. The Democratic and Republican fields contrast sharply. Hillary Clinton is the clear front-runner, while there is no front-runner on the Republican side. Twenty-three Democrats have been mentioned as a candidate or are eyeing a bid, according to an analysis by The Hill. The GOP side has 42. Most of the people on this list won’t run, and some have adamantly claimed that they’re not interested. But many politicians have changed their minds on seeking the White House. Before mounting his 2008 bid, then-Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) said he...

Complete Title: The Democrats are running a Hispanic, Former Gang Member, Car Thief and Baby Killer and “They Love Her” Lucy Flores is the new shining light for the Democratic Party in Nevada State. Can this former gang member be the new face of the Dems in a state to go totally Republican due to Harry Reid’s dubious ways? Flores is from the seedy streets of Las Vegas in a predominately Hispanic neighborhood that shadows the infamous Las Vegas Strip. She had dropped out of high school by the age of 17, been arrested for driving a stolen car on...

Amid raucous debate, Nevada Republican Party conventioneers on Saturday stripped opposition to gay marriage and abortion from the party platform and endorsed Gov. Brian Sandoval for governor in the June 10 primary despite misgivings by conservatives, his criticism of the process and his absence from the meeting. The convention also backed Sue Lowden for lieutenant governor over state Sen. Mark Hutchison, R-Las Vegas, who was endorsed by Sandoval and who also spurned the party’s move to endorse candidates before the primary. A nominating committee proposed more than three dozen pre-primary endorsements, although the panel decided against recommending anybody in the...

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that two militia members from Montana and one from Utah have arrived at Cliven Bundy’s ranch. “We need to be the barrier between the oppressed and the tyrants,” Ryan Payne of the West Mountain Rangers told the Review-Journal. “Expect to see a band of soldiers.” Payne said that militias from New Hampshire, Texas and Florida are likely to join and stand with Bundy and stay at his ranch. “They all tell me they are in the process of mobilizing as we speak,” Payne told the Review-Journal, adding that hundreds of militia members are expected. The...

The Federal Election Committee (FEC) is asking Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to explain the listing of more than $16,000 in holiday gifts in a campaign filing, according to a report. Ralston Reports, run by Nevada journalist Jon Ralston, reported Tuesday that 2016 campaign money was used on presents for supporters. Ralston said he learned the gifts were actually purchased by Reid’s granddaughter, Ryan Elisabeth Reid, who sells jewelry in Berkeley, Calif. She bought the gifts — using the campaign’s money — for Reid’s donors and backers, the report says. The filing only identified her as Ryan Elisabeth, and Ralston said...

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! From the first Morning Jolt of the week: This Sandoval Guy Looks Like He Knows What He’s Doing in Nevada Congratulations on your second term, Nevada Governor Gov. Brian Sandoval! Okay, it’s not official, but he’s pulling a Jindal – putting together such a solid record in his first term that no top-tier or even second-tier Democrat challenger is throwing a hat into the ring to prevent a second term. The AP is saying it’s just about over before it begins: Fifteen challengers filed for the Nevada governor’s race by Friday’s deadline. But with little name...

No wonder Republicans can't even get 40 percent of Latino votes in a presidential election. When Mitt Romney made his first big push to appeal to Latinos earlier this week in Texas, he hammered the "Obama economy" for being "particularly hard on Hispanic businesses and Hispanic Americans." He pointed out the grim statistics -- an unemployment rate for Latinos of 11 percent and a poverty rate of 30 percent. And he stressed that the Obama regime's economic policies are hostile to the small businesses and entrepreneurs that traditionally provide many of the jobs in the Hispanic community. Everything Romney said...
  • Sandoval Still Crushing Reid in Nevada Race for Governor

Republican Brian Sandoval is utterly destorying Democrat Rody Reid in Nevada by a double digit margin in the race for Nevada's highest office. A new poll released by the nation's most accurate polling service, Rasmussen, states that Sandoval has a 13% lead on Reid. This should come as no surprise, even if Reid's father, Harry Reid, is the Senate Majority leader. Harry Reid is incredibly unpopular and is facing the Senate race of his life. The elder Reid is in a statistical tie with Tea Party-backed Sharron Angle.
