Brazil's federal police today arrested 10 people and smashed a network allied to ISIS that was preparing 'acts of terrorism' at next month's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. President Michel Temer has called an emergency cabinet meeting and Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes said the operation spanned nine states across Brazil, although the arrests were made in the southern states of Sao Paulo and Parana. A court in Parana said there were indications the group was planning to use weapons to launch attacks similar to the Paris atrocities in November last year. Earlier this month Mr Moraes said a jihadist...

Turkey has said it will suspend the European Convention on Human Rights during a state of emergency declared in the aftermath of last weekend’s coup attempt. “Turkey will suspend the European Convention on Human Rights insofar as it does not conflict with its international obligations,” the deputy prime minister, Numan Kurtulmus, was quoted as saying by the state-run Anadolu news agency. The state of emergency will allow the government to rule by decree, passing bills that have the force of the rule of law unless they are overturned by parliament, where the majority of MPs belong to the ruling Justice...

"By Ted Cruz not supporting the nominee, he's exempted himself from real conservatives," he said. "No voter gives a crap about what Ted Cruz does. The only person this hurts is Ted Cruz..." Heidi Cruz, wife of Texas Senator Ted Cruz, was reportedly rushed out of the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night after the crowd turned on her husband at the end of his speech. Boos rained down on Ted Cruz as he issued a speech calling for people to vote on their "conscience" and declining to officially endorse Donald Trump, despite loud calls for him to do so from the crowd. With her is Ken Cuccinelli, the former attorney general of Virginia, who has also been firmly anti-Trump. Cuccinelli reportedly confirmed to journalists that he helped Heidi Cruz leave the scene...

Cleveland (CNN)Former President George W. Bush fretted to a group of former aides and advisers in April that he was worried he could be the "last Republican president." The 43rd president's remark, at a gathering in Dallas of his administration's staffers, reflected a dim view of the party's prospects at a time when the primary contest was realistically down to Donald Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

Ecclesiastes 1:9: "There is nothing new under the sun." Well, that goes for the content of most political speeches, too. By now you may have seen the day's leading headline -- the one that posits Melania Trump's speech Monday evening at the Republican National Convention was "plagiarized" from a speech made in August 2008 by Michelle Obama at the Democratic National Convention. To begin, some of the most bias headlines lead one to believe that Mrs. Trump plagiarized her entire speech. This is false. The truth, rather, is that two portions of Mrs. Trump's speech are being called into question...
