A Confederate battle flag was attached Sunday night to a Boston memorial that commemorates one of the first all-black regiments to fight for the union during the Civil War, hanging there for over an hour before a woman removed it. Melissa Carino, 37, of Lowell said she saw the flag hanging from the Robert Gould Shaw and Massachusetts 54th Regiment Memorial across the street from the State House at about 8 p.m. Carino said she left and returned to the location later, angered that it had not been removed.

The 44-year-old man armed with a knife who was shot and killed by a state trooper near Boston University on Friday was wanted on charges of criminal harassment, distribution of obscene matter, and annoying a person of the opposite sex, officials said Monday. Santos Laboy was being sought on arrest warrants issued out of Roxbury Municipal Court when BU police spotted him Friday afternoon. A trooper who was assisting the university police fatally shot Laboy when he allegedly refused to drop a knife and made “threatening gestures.’’

On March 30, a major Harvard-affiliated hospital in Boston, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), expelled a well-respected urologist from its medical staff because he voiced concerns about the unhealthy nature of homosexual behavior and objected to the hospital’s aggressive promotion of “gay pride” activities. Dr. Paul Church has been a urologist on the BIDMC staff in Boston for nearly 30 years. He is a member of the Harvard Medical School faculty. He has done research on diagnosing prostate and bladder cancer, and has been a frequent volunteer for medical mission projects in Mexico and Africa. He has also spoken...

We knew it was a matter of when, not if, we’d be hit again by Islamist terrorists on our own soil. Just last Sunday, two ISIS-sympathizing terrorists, clad in body armor and wielding assault rifles, attacked a Muhammad Art Exhibit and Cartoon Contest in Garland, Texas. Luckily, they were killed before they could slaughter the people attending the event. Now U.S. military bases and installations are stepping up security, as FBI Director James Comey is warning that there are “hundreds, maybe thousands” of people across the country who are being recruited by ISIS with orders to attack the U.S. Security...

Kentucky U.S. Sen. Rand Paul needs to Etch A Sketch his political strategy pronto. Anyone who thinks that trash-talking your own party will win over voters in a very crowded presidential field needs to be sent packing. Paul has given media interviews saying the GOP brand “sucks.” And in a thinly veiled slap at his fellow Senate Republicans, he has said, “These barnacled enablers have never met a war they didn’t like.” If that’s not bad enough, he’s now blaming the hawks in his party for ISIS. Never mind 9/11 and all the Democrats who voted for the War in...

Parenthetically, the idea of an “antiterror” expert should itself draw our ire, given that terror is a tactic, not the name of an ideologically-driven enemy. After all, during the Second World War we didn’t call upon anti-Blitzkrieg experts to define our enemies. We understood and were able to articulate that we were at war with a foe, not a fighting method. Meanwhile, today there is nary a mention of Islamic religious tenets like jihad, abrogation and taqqiya, nor a discussion of Islam’s ultimate goal to create a global Ummah under which all submit to Shariah law. This is not an...

Authorities today released surveillance footage showing police and FBI shooting terror suspect Usaamah Rahim in a Roslindale parking lot nearly a week ago. The video, taken from a camera placed across the parking lot, shows officers approaching a person authorities identified as Rahim after he walked to a bus stop on Tuesday morning. A marked Boston police cruiser arrives to the scene as Rahim walks into the parking lot surrounded by several officers, the video shows. Officers appear to have their guns holstered before drawing them as they back up from Rahim. After a few moments, Rahim then drops to...

Seth Moulton had earned two medals in Iraq for his valor. He’d witnessed brutal combat in four tours with the Marines. But none of that mattered when he showed up at the Veterans Health Administration hospital in Washington, D.C., where staff could not find records. “We’ll consider taking you as a humanitarian case,” a hospital staffer told Moulton, unaware that the would-be hernia patient was also a newly elected Massachusetts congressman. Thus began Moulton’s frustrating experience with the Veterans Affairs health system, a personal sampling of a chronically troubled medical bureaucracy that has drawn complaints from veterans, demands for improvements...

Khairullozhon Matanov is a 24-year-old former cab driver from Quincy, Massachusetts. The night of the Boston Marathon bombings, he ate dinner with Tamerlan and Dhzokhar Tsarnaev at a kebob restaurant in Somerville. Four days later Matanov saw photographs of his friends listed as suspects in the bombings on the CNN and FBI websites. Later that day he went to the local police. He told them that he knew the Tsarnaev brothers and that they’d had dinner together that week, but he lied about whose idea it was to have dinner, lied about when exactly he had looked at the Tsarnaevs’...

Midnight basketball tournaments and a new community center for children named for Freddie Gray not far from Gilmor Homes, where he was arrested, are aimed at uniting the city. Never bring a knife to
a gunfight. That wasn’t dead thug Usaamah Rahim’s first big mistake, but it was certainly the final one of his shiftless, leeching 26 years on earth. But at least the Islamist savage shared with us his final words. “You drop yours!” OK, so it’s not quite up there with, say, “Top o’ the world, Ma! Top o’ the world!” or “Mother of Mercy, is this the end of Rico?” But Cagney and Robinson had Hollywood scriptwriters. The terrorist du jour was ad-libbing. Besides, “Mother of Mercy, is this the end of Usaamah?” just doesn’t have...
