Actor Morgan Freeman is the voice that narrates GOP congressional candidate B.J. Lawson's latest TV and radio ads. It is Freeman who says: “What is David Price afraid of?” He was referring to the Democratic congressman. Lawson said he was inspired by Freeman explaining the importance of the founding documents in his narration of a video about the Declaration of Independence. “Barbara Streisand wouldn't do this, but Morgan Freeman doesn't have a problem cutting ads against Washington insiders or he wouldn't do it,” said Martin Avila, Lawson's campaign manager. • B.J. Lawson Polling Ahead of Rep. David Price

William (B.J.) Lawson, MD, Republican challenger to Rep. David Price in North Carolina's Fourth District, announces a turning point in his campaign as a recent poll shows that 46.5 percent of likely voters would elect him, as opposed to 46.1 percent who would vote to re-elect 22-year incumbent Rep. Price. "This proves that voters know that Washington insiders aren't serving their best interests, especially not one who votes with Nancy Pelosi more than any other congressman," said Dr. Lawson. "Nearly half of these respondents are Democratic voters, so regardless of political affiliation, Americans know you can't spend yourself out of...

BJ LAWSON: THE NON-INTERVENTIONIST BJ Lawson states: “As a fellow noninterventionist, I know that Adam Kokesh also represents the future of principled politics, and the Republican Party. Please join me in wishing him and his campaign a happy birthday.” http://blog.lawsonforcongress.com/2009/01/23/lobbyings-return-on-investment/ Definition: Nonintervention or non-interventionism is a foreign policy which holds that political rulers should avoid alliances with other nations, but still retain diplomacy, and avoid all wars not related to direct territorial self-defense. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-interventionism This Poem describes what I think perfectly..... First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out-- because I was not a communist; Then...
  • A Short Stack of Lies and Half-Truths from the Wall Street Journal

I’m grateful that Dr. Tom DiLorenzo, professor of economics at Loyola College, took the time to write a rebuttal to an inexplicably ignorant hit-piece recently published in the Wall Street Journal entitled “A Short Banking History of the United States.” The author of this article, Mr. John Steele Gordon, makes a number of spurious claims in an attempt to discredit the economic philosophy of sound money controlled by the people, and defend Alexander Hamilton’s loyalty to banking interests in the drive to create a private central bank to own our money supply. Beneath all of Mr. Gordon’s flowery rhetoric, however,...
  • The Odd Lies of David Price, Part III

For this entry, we will go outside his aforementioned email. Don’t worry; we’ll be returning to it very soon. After taking another look at the debate between Congressman Price and Dr. Lawson, his “Keeping in Touch” newsletter that he sent to the 4th District voters (at taxpayer expense), and his Vote Smart page, there’s a particular claim that Congressman Price likes to make (or at least imply) that his recent record shows to be a bowl of mush. This claim is that he is some sort of a principled fiscal conservative who works tirelessly for balanced budgets. In his “Keeping...
  • What $637,000 Will Buy You

It turns out that Congressman David Price (B.J. Lawson’s opponent in this year’s election) has some very good friends in the financial sector, which has given his campaigns a whopping $637,000 over his career, more than 2/3 of which has come from financial PACs. Just this year, the financial sector has contributed about $57,000 to his campaign, with 65% coming from PACs. How has Congressman Price rewarded this lucrative support? Quite handsomely, it appears. In 1999, he voted for the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which repealed the Glass-Steagall regulations barring financial institutions from performing both commercial and investment banking, as well as...
  • Running for Congress: Expensive. Being Attacked by Twenty Year Incumbent: Priceless.

We’re making progress, and our incumbent’s machine is feeling the heat. Early voting started last Thursday, and we’ve been staffing polling places throughout the District to spread the word about the campaign. Our team has been doing a great job — in fact, in some cases they’ve been doing such a great job that the opposition has tried to shut them down. Theresa and Tiffany were working at a polling place in South Durham on Thursday, and apparently their readiness to engage with voters created a bit of nervousness among the Democratic party staffers. After a few hours, a lady...
  • How We’re Doing: First Polling Numbers (Lawson (R), NC-4)

How We’re Doing: First Polling Numbers By: BJ Lawson As you know, I’m a big believer in transparency in government. That translates into transparency in campaigns, as well — especially since our campaign is supported by so many people. Many have asked for insight into how we’re doing, and tonight we received results from our first poll. We called a sample of 1,105 households across the district, stratified by precinct. Before we hit the results, let’s review our district’s demographics: Democrats: 46% Republicans: 28% Unaffiliated: 26% As you can see, while Democrats far outnumber Republicans, Unaffiliated voters and any swing...
