The chairman of CPAC announced that Utah Sen. Mitt Romney is "formally not invited" to the conservative group's annual conference this year. Matt Schlapp, the head of the American Conservative Union, said Romney is not allowed at the event after the Utah Republican voted in favor of summoning witnesses in the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump. Romney was one of two Republicans who joined 47 Democrats in supporting the motion, which failed to pass on Friday. Mitt Romney is not keen on President Trump’s attacks on impeachment witnesses, but conceded that the insults are working. “He has made a career of trashing people by tweet,” Romney, 72, told the New York Times. “It is part of his shtick and it’s working for him,” the Utah senator said of Trump’s attacks on his former national security adviser John Bolton. “I think it’s unfortunate.”
