Americans see more political bias in news than ever, and nearly seven-in-10 blame media owners for influencing the ways stories are reported, according to the latest failing report card on the nation’s news business. According to “American Views: Trust, Media and Democracy,” a new report from Gallup and the Knight Foundation, the percentage of Americans who see a great deal of political bias in stories has nearly doubled since 1989. Currently, 45 percent see “a great deal” of political bias, said the report, according to an analysis by the Nieman Lab. Maybe worse, said Nieman: “Less than half of Americans...

WFAA anchor Alisha Laventure gave the President a piece of her mind. Laventure is the daughter of two Haitian immigrants. She says she took personal offense to President Trump’s comments about immigrants from Haiti. “The fact is what the President said the other day is so wrong, I can’t even repeat it,” she said.

just for fun, I decided to look at the LOCAL media twitter feeds. I look at the stuff down here in South Florida; newspaper, radio, tv. Talk about the bias they exhibit. one reporter retweeted someone's F bomb tweet. And they attack Trump for saying less. Can't post any pics now, but will try to do so later. I make this thread so you all can share your thoughts. See how biased even the local media is. Not good.

U.S. Rep Mario Diaz-Balart was inside a meeting where President Trump reportedly used the phrase “sh*thole countries.” ...Diaz-Balart was asked if the American people deserve to know what exactly President Trump said... Diaz-Balart said, “The American people have the right to know a lot of things and everything, but let’s get something straight, I’ve been in public service for three decades now, and when I meet with a constituent, when I meet with an ambassador or if I meet with the head of State, and we close the door on the meeting, there is the obvious expectation that what is...

President Barack Obama says his talks with Gulf fishermen and oil spill experts are not an academic exercise. They're "so I know whose ass to kick." One target for the presidential foot: Tony Hayward, the embattled chief executive of BP. Obama was asked by Matt Lauer of NBC's "Today" about Hayward's past comments that "I want my life back," that the Gulf was "a big ocean" and that "the environmental...

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) named Donald Trump the "top global press oppressor." The award was considered an upset win. Regimes like China where journalists are jailed for criticizing the government, Turkey, which has surpassed China as the world's biggest jailer of journalists, and Russia where reporters frequently are murdered are expected to lodge protests. Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan complained "we have worked very hard to be the best oppressors. We have more reporters in prison than any other country. I could understand being edged out by Russia or China with their lengthy pedigrees for dealing with nettlesome...

Michael Barnett has spent years encouraging Haitian-Americans to vote Republican. And he was an early and continuing supporter of President Donald Trump... Barnett said he believes the president and doesn’t believe Trump feels negatively toward the Haitian people. “The president has denied slandering the Haitian people, and I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt,” Barnett said. “This off-the-cuff remark was probably not meant to be taken the way it sounded. He does not believe that Haiti was, quote-unquote, a shithole country. I don’t believe he believes that.”
  • The problem isn't just that Trump's a racist. It's that he keeps acting on his racism.

    NBC "News" ^ | January 12, 2018 | by Karine Jean-Pierre
The president has always been a racist. The issue is that he now has the power to make policy based on prejudice. I am the daughter of two immigrants who moved our family to the United States for a better life and richer opportunities. I am an immigrant. I am a former White House aide. I am Haitian-American. And on Thursday, President Trump called my homeland a "s-hole." And they’re not just comments: they’re the basis for Trump’s mass deportation policy. That racism underlies this administration's thinking on immigration is thoroughly unsurprising. Donald Trump’s legacy is not simply speckled with...

... So, here we are. Who do we believe: the President of the United States or a sitting Democratic senator -- and loads of media outlets (including CNN) that have confirmed that Trump used the word "shithole" to describe certain countries that were sending immigrants to the US? We are now certain to see the disagreement play out. The problem here for Trump is that he has a massive -- the biggest! -- credibility problem of his own making. Trump's casual relationship with the truth extends back well before he became President. His claims about Mexico sending "rapists" and "criminals"...

OSLO - Many Norwegians rejected on Friday a suggestion by U.S. President Donald Trump that they would be more welcome to move to the United States than immigrants from “shithole countries” such as Haiti or African nations. The Nordic country, one of the richest in the world by GDP per capita, was last year named the happiest nation on the planet and is known for a cradle-to-grave welfare state funded in part by large reserves of oil and natural gas. “On behalf of Norway: Thanks, but no thanks,” tweeted Torbjoern Saetre, a politician representing Norway’s Conservative Party in a municipality...

  • New California bill could serve as national boilerplate for skirting Trump’s tax law

A California Senate leader introduced legislation Thursday aimed at circumventing a central plank in the new Republican tax law, introducing a model that — if successful — could be replicated across the country. California Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin de León (D) introduced a bill that would allow taxpayers to make a charitable donation to the California Excellence Fund instead of paying certain state taxes. They could then deduct that contribution from their federal taxable income.

Hyattsville, MD – An assistant public defender in the Maryland Office of the Public Defender is under investigation for her anti-police social media post. In October, Clare Carlson, who has worked for the state’s public defender’s office for almost two years, posted a picture of a piece of embroidery featuring the words “F**k the Police” on her personal Facebook page. Paul DeWolfe, the Public Defender of Maryland, said his office is investigating. “We have a social media policy, and this posting definitely violated our policy,” DeWolfe told Blue Lives Matter. “We obviously don’t support the sentiment,” he said.
