Modern Man Tries to Build a 3,500 Year Old Boat from the Bronze Age and Fails A team of people from 2012 tried to re-create and build a boat from 1550 BC, the Bronze Age, but failed spectacularly. When the ship was lowered into the ocean, it immediately filled with water and started sinking. Yikes, we suck. The team was made up of British archaeologists and craftsmen who have been hammering away and building the boat with Bronze Age tools and methods for the past three months. The boat it was based on, used oak planks sewn together with yew...

Dog: man's best friend for over 33,000 years He's been man's best friend for generations. An ancient dog skull found in Siberia and dating back 33,000 years presents some of the oldest known evidence of dog domestication. When combined with a similar find in Belgium, the two skulls indicate that the domestication of dogs by humans occurred repeatedly throughout early human history at different geographic locations -- rather than at a single domestication event, as previously believed. "Both the Belgian find and the Siberian find are domesticated species based on morphological characteristics," said Greg Hodgins, a researcher at the University...

Its all about being 'politcally correct.' Many Christians are upset over the talk of removing the use of Before Christ (B.C.) and Anno Domini (A.D.) in school textbooks. Its not happened here in the U.S. yet, but they're talking about it in Australia. "The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority" wants to replace B.C. and A.D. (Anno Domini is Latin for “the year of our Lord”) with less religious terms. So, what would be less religious? How about: BCE - (Before Common Era) BP (Before Present) And CE (Common Era)
  • P.C. scholars take Christ out of B.C.

In certain precincts of a world encouraged to embrace differences, Christ is out. The terms "B.C." and "A.D." increasingly are shunned by certain scholars. Educators and historians say schools have been changing the terms "Before Christ," or B.C., to "Before Common Era," or B.C.E., and "anno Domini" (Latin for "in the year of the Lord") to "Common Era." In short, they're referred to as B.C.E. and C.E. The new terms were introduced by academics in the 1990s in public elementary and high school classrooms. Candace de Russy, a national writer on education and Catholic issues and a trustee for SUNY,...
  • Use of B.C. and A.D. Faces Changing Times

In a world encouraged to embrace differences, B.C. and A.D. are increasingly finding themselves on the wrong end of the religious sensitivity meter. Educators and historians say schools from North America to Australia have been changing the terms Before Christ to Before Common Era and anno Domini (Latin for "year of the Lord") to Common Era. In short, they're referred to as B.C.E. and C.E. The change has stoked the ire of Christian conservatives and some religious leaders who view it as an attack on a social and political order that has been in place for centuries. Ironically, for more...

Archaeologists led by a Bible professor from Pittsburgh made an extraordinary discovery in Israel last summer. Their excavation team found the oldest example of the Hebrew alphabet ever seen. The inscription, from the 10th century B.C.E., is written in the same script as early parts of the Hebrew Bible. “Anything written in the days of Solomon,” would have been written in this alphabet, says Dr. Ron Tappy, professor of Bible and archaeology at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Tappy presented his findings at The Cleveland Museum of Natural History March 8. The discovery was made at Tell Zeitah (Tel Zayit in Hebrew),...

After watching a few minutes of the History Channel regarding the Bible, I noticed no mention of B.C. or A.D. Wondering if anyone else is familiar with the new trend.
