On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher called for people to “rally the normies, which we now realize are still most of us,” after the 2022 midterm elections, and push back against extremes on the left and the right with “grand bargains” like people on the right conceding voter fraud “doesn’t exist” “and liberals will admit that getting a picture I.D. is not a Herculean burden that minorities can’t manage like everybody else, and which most don’t even object to.”

Any millionaire can buy themselves a fancy yacht, but if you want a conversation piece ... well, it helps if it has a story behind it, and the Lockheed Martin-built Sea Slice certainly does. Launched in 1996 by the US Navy as a military support vessel, the experimental watercraft features a unique hull design that reportedly allows it to remain as stable as a conventional ship three times its size. It cost US$15 million to design and build, but you can have it now for the low, low price of just $180,000. The Sea Slice utilizes a variation on the...

I just read on another message board that if you order a pizza form Papa John's website and use the promo code "EW50" you will get 50% off your order. This seems to be working for some people but not others, so just a FYI for anybody who wants to try it.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – With the NASCAR season revving up at Daytona International Speedway this week, companies still have a chance to associate themselves with the sport's most popular driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr. And they can do so at the relative bargain-bin prices found in NASCAR's second-tier Nationwide series. In happier economic times a few years ago, the possibility of such a deal would have triggered a stampede of potential sponsors tradin' paint with briefcases as they raced from the boardroom to the track. But as of this week, the Earnhardt family's JR Motorsports team had sponsorship contracts in hand...

One of my resolutions for the new year is to begin a food storage program for my new house. Unfortunately, I live in a very rural area where there aren't any bulk food warehouses. The only bulk foods available are from extremely overpriced health food stores and co-ops. Wal-Mart prices are actually pretty good for canned goods, but I want to buy wheat, barley, flour, oats, beans, etc., in 25# or 50# bags. Can anyone point me in the direction of good sources for small quantities of staples? I wouldn't mind travelling once a year to pick the stuff up,...

Over the years, Peter Lynch has taken some flak for suggesting that investors looking for ideas should open up the fridge and make a list. Some of that flak wasn't entirely fair, because Lynch did caution that this maxim was merely a starting point. In fact, if you open your fridge and cupboards today and make a list of ideas to invest in, you'll do reasonably well. A number of well-known companies such as Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG), Clorox (NYSE: CLX), Church & Dwight (NYSE: CHD), and Motley Fool Inside Value selection Colgate-Palmolive (NYSE: CL) trade at prices that...

Recycled goods, including foodstuffs and magazines, are prized.BAGHDAD, Iraq - In the alleyways and streets near the main downtown Baghdad bus terminal, street merchants shouted loudly over the traffic and pedestrians. “Good quality products! Cheap prices! Come over and take a look!” Iraqis lined up three-deep in order to glance at the merchandise. For their efforts they saw stacks of magazines, lotions, books, food, and shampoos — some new, some second hand — all American.Ali Warrar, 35, took off his glasses and calmly said, “Not a dinar less than 750 (50 cents).” His customer kept turning the military MRE...

Years ago I was in a bar in La-La Land and was hitting on a Stewardess. Anyway, I didn't get what you think BUT I did get something much more important. That Stewardess worked for Delta Airlines and she told me that on weekdays mornings a Delta Flight that ended up in L.A. had to make a short hop over to San Diego to begin it's daily flight from there. As a result, they only charged $9 ROUND-TRIP for the flight. I had to find out if the Stewardess was on the level or was just kidding me so that...

Germany's consumer affairs minister wants to ban bargains from the shops, arguing that low-priced products have caused a drop in quality and are confusing customers. Renate Künast, a member of the Green party, plans to take legal action against shops that practise "price-dumping", or who lure consumers into their stores with fake discount offers. Similar sales tactics are common in Britain and America. The minister's announcement amounts to a reversal on the part of Chancellor Gerhard Schröder's government, which last year scrapped a 70-year-old law that prohibited shops from offering reductions of more than three per cent. They were also...
