  • Indiana lawmaker drafts bill that would require journalists to be licensed by state police

Lucas, from Seymour, has been critical of the media’s coverage of his efforts to repeal a state law that requires a permit to carry a handgun. He has stated reporters, columnists and editorial boards mischaracterize his idea, which is sometimes referred to as “constitutional carry.” “If I was as irresponsible with my handgun as the media has been with their keyboard, I’d probably be in jail,” Lucas said. The proposal would require professional journalists to submit an application with Indiana State Police. They would be fingerprinted and would have to pay $75 for a lifetime license. If journalists have been...
  • Chris Murphy: Federal ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban Would Have Prevented Vegas Attack

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) says the federal “assault weapons” ban that lapsed in 2004 would have prevented the Las Vegas attack, had that ban still been in force today. This claim shows a deep misunderstanding of the “assault weapons” ban, which did not ban the possession or purchase of “assault weapons.” Rather, it limited importation and mandated types that could be manufactured in the U.S., thus driving up prices. For a man of means like Stephen Paddock, paying the higher price for an “assault weapon” would have been no problem.

In a virtue signaling display common on the left, the Washington Post published an article critical of a church for raffling two rifles for charity.  Amy B. Wang, a writer for the post, made a national story of the dislike of a leftist for the raffle of two AR-15 type rifles.Image from oxfordeagle.comFrom jacksonville.com: “I had a kid approach me: ‘Would you like to join a raffle? We’ve got two AR-15s.’ And I’m like, whoa,” Belden-Adams said. Just the Sunday before, a gunman had opened fire on a country music festival in Las Vegas, killing 58 people and wounding...

In the hypercharged partisan atmosphere that disgracefully follows any mass shooting tragedy, journalists, politicians, and anyone with an opinion spontaneously become firearms experts. Yet, as this U.S. Army combat infantry grunt can attest, these desk jockeys are no straight shooters. The Interstate 91 country music massacre is no exception. From talks of machine guns, bump stocks, “silencers” and the semantics of weapons transportation, these would-be sharpshooters are negligently off-target when it comes to the laws of modern warfare. Although reporters posing as weekend warriors insist that crazed gunman Stephen Paddock’s decision to use a bump stock made his shooting ambush...
  • The Guardian: Background Check Laws Fail in CO, WA Because Citizens Will Not Comply

On October 13 the Guardian reported that background check laws in Colorado and Washington state have proven a failure because citizens simply will not comply with them. This means that after millions upon millions spent, political offices lost, and promises of a Utopian world with less gun crime made, the checks have been a bust. According to The Guardian, the failure of these background check laws was discovered via research by Injury Prevention and it “is a setback for a growing gun control movement that has centered its national strategy on precisely the kind of state laws passed in Colorado...
  • New Bipartisan Bump Stock Bill Would Actually Ban All Semi-Automatic Rifles

A new gun control proposal in Congress that is being pitched as a bipartisan bump stock ban would actually ban all semi-automatic rifles in the United States, according to an analysis of the proposed bill. The legislation...never bans bump stocks by name. Instead, the proposal bans any person from possessing or making any part that could be used to increase the rate of fire in any semi-automatic rifle...At no point does the proposed legislation specify a base rate of fire against which any illegal increases would be judged.... As a result, the proposal arguably institutes a federal ban on any...

A story that should be getting more attention is one out of the Black Hills of South Dakota. It doesn't get much more interesting than a depredating lion, a 14 year old hunter protecting the family livelihood, and a rifle won at an NRA raffle. The story has already been written by Tom Griffith. The article is well done. I do not want to steal the author's thunder. Here is an excerpt to the rapidcityjournal.com: After a long, sad day, Streff’s youngest child, 14-year-old Dalton, who fancies himself a hunter, told his mother he was going to go sit in...

Czech president Miloš Zeman has said Europeans should “have the courage to invest in our own guns” in order to guard against international terrorism, like millions of U.S. citizens have. The elder statesman — a veteran of the Prague Spring uprising against the old Communist regime as well as the Velvet Revolution which finally brought it down — made his comments in an address to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, an intergovernmental forum which predates the quasi-federal European Union by several years. “The level of international crime is growing because of Islamic terrorism,” he said, in response...

Detroit, Michigan, October 10, 2017: An attempted robbery in Detroit didn’t turn out the way the criminal hoped it would. A concealed handgun permit holder was able to react quickly. “Police told the CPL holder it was a good thing he was legally armed or he and his cousin may not be alive today.”

Take Action: Please call your State Senator ASAP at the MA State House, 617-722-2000 and urge them to oppose the "bump stock" language passed today by the MA House in entirety. Today, with no warning, the Massachusetts House of Representatives added an emergency amendment to their budget based on legislation filed by Representative David Linsky (D) Natick. They voted it through with only three no votes. The language of the amendment was in three parts. The first outlines a ban on components that can be added to a firearm, rifle, or shotgun that could increase the rate of fire, “Whoever...

Every time a horrific event like the Las Vegas massacre takes place, it is followed by a frustrating and futile debate about the merits of gun control. People on both sides of the debate trot out talking points and talk right past each other without listening. Much of the frustration comes from the fact that everybody would like to do something to prevent such disasters from every happening again. But, the overwhelming desire to do something is matched by the pragmatic reality that no new law, policy initiative, or government program could have prevented the gruesome events of Las Vegas....

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan backed away Wednesday from legislative action to ban “bump stocks,” the device a mass shooter used in Las Vegas earlier this month to create machine-gun-like rapid fire from his legal semiautomatic rifle, killing 58. Instead, Ryan and many of his fellow House Republicans hope the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) will act administratively to outlaw the devices, which the agency ruled legal in 2010. ... “We think the regulatory fix is the smartest, quickest fix, and then, frankly, we’d like to know how it happened in the first place,” Ryan (Wis.) told...

Almost immediately after the Las Vegas shooting came the calls for "common sense" gun control. The quest almost always begins with a reassurance that "no one wants to take away your guns." Not everyone read the memo. Nelson Shields, founder of Handgun Control, Inc., the organization that became the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, in a 1976 interview could not have been more clear about his group's goals: "Our ultimate goal -- total control of handguns in the United States -- is going to take time. My estimate is from seven to 10 years. The first problem is to...

You’re probably thinking “no way”, but Youtuber Eric of IraqVeteran8888 shoots one indoor. It just goes to show, there seems to be no firearm that can’t be fitted with a suppressor these days. It’s hard to tell from a video exactly how much quieter this suppressor (Aklys Hayde) made this rifle. But the fact that Eric was able to fire this 50 caliber twice back-to-back indoor without hearing protection says a lot! We're just wondering what kind of extreme suppressor will be built next to top this one! See the suppressed .50 cal shot indoor video here.

Last week Stephen Paddock killed at least 59 Las Vegas concert-goers using automatic weapons. Reportedly aided by “bump stocks” that made his semi-automatic rifles into automatic weapons, his killing spree was the worst in U.S. history. People were understandably horrified that that he was able to fire what amounted to machine guns into a crowd. Yet similar weapons were being fired in movie theaters around the country. Three of the top five movies at the box office featured characters blasting away with automatic weapons. Two -- Kingsman: Golden Circle and American Assassin -- included so many examples of such violence...

Ever since the Las Vegas shooting and Senator Diane Feinstein introduced her bill to ban bump fire stocks, claims have been made about the speed at which semi-automatic rifles can be made to fire while using these ATF-approved accessories. Defenders pointed out that in order to simulate full-auto fire, you don’t need a bump fire stock . . You can achieve the same rates of fire with a rubber band. Or a belt loop as seen on Youtube channels. But what many really wanted to see was someone with serious skills to fire an un-aided semi-auto AR to see what...

Whether you agree with the widely reported statistic that there have been nearly 300 mass shootings this year might depend on how you define “mass shooting.” In the aftermath of the Las Vegas massacre, left-leaning media outlets have been playing fast and loose with the data on mass shootings to inflate their number and suggest that white men make up a disproportionate share of the perpetrators.
