Nevada Standoff: April 12th - A historic day when the people rose up and forced tyrants to retreat.by Gina Cassini | Top Right News The media's version of the end of the Bundy Ranch siege is that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) simply "left" the ranch and "returned" the cattle out of the goodness of their hearts. CBS News even outrageously reported that the BLM "released the cattle to help restore order and avoid violence"! This despite widely-seen video of BLM thugs tasing Bundy's son and shoving a pregnant woman to the ground. And the protesters never threatened violence in any way...

Retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens had an op-ed piece in the Washington Post a couple of days ago [1] that still has my brain doing backflips. He claims that, “Legislatures are in a far better position than judges to assess the wisdom of such rules and to evaluate the costs and benefits that rule changes can be expected to produce.” Stevens certainly did not believe this when he signed onto decisions overturning Texas’s sodomy law [2], or when arguing that state laws limiting abortion were unconstitutional [3], or when striking down Louisiana’s death penalty for raping a...

President Obama has been asked to stop the importation of what 82 House Democrats believe to be “military-style firearms” such as the AK-47. They want to stop gun crime in Mexico. Maybe they would be more successful at stopping gun violence in Mexico if they fired Holder and revamped the ATF. The ban “would require no congressional action as the President has very broad authority under the 1968 Gun Control Act to prohibit the importation of firearms and ammunition unless they are generally recognized as particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes.” Led my Eliot L. Engel (D-NY)...

The rural Nevada showdown between federal government officials and militia members protecting rancher Cliven Bundy has evolved into a battle of government “tyranny,” with many newly arriving militiamen rolling in to draw a line in the dirt about 70 miles northeast of Las Vegas. ... “This is a better education than being in school! I’m glad I brought you. I’m a good mom,” Ilona Ence, a 49-year-old mother from St. George and Bundy relative who brought her four teenage children to the ranch, told the Las Vegas Sun. “They’re learning about the Constitution.” Ence’s teenage sons posted up a sign...

SB527, the Wisconsin range protection legislation, passed the legislature with wide margins, 19 - 13 in the Senate and 65-35 in the House. It was signed into law by Governor Walker on 9 April, 2014. The law builds on current law which exempts sport shooting ranges from zoning ordinances related to noise and grandfathers in ranges that legally existed prior to July 16th, 2013. This bill extends immunity from lawsuit to the owners and operators of the shooting ranges, and exempts shooting ranges from state or local zoning conditions or rules related to noise or to nonconforming use, including...

Question for FReeperdom members who have experience with the Remington 7XX series in .308. Bought a slightly used rifle, a 770. Had it inspected by the 'smith at the gun store, zero'd for 200 yds. Son took it shooting yesterday and intermittently when he opened the action the bolt would slide all the out the rear, requiring re-assembly insertion. He was shooting with an experienced 7XX friend who of course made him check the release lever, and they found no obvious fault. Any thoughts on what to check for or inspect prior to letting the 'smithy look at it for...

(Reuters) - In a crisis situation or evacuation for natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires, people with no criminal record would be allowed to carry a firearm without a permit, under a bill approved Friday by the Florida House of Representatives. "The bells of liberty are surely ringing throughout Florida today," said Representative Heather Dawes Fitzenhagen, a Fort Myers Republican who sponsored the bill lifting permit requirements for concealed weapons in an emergency declared by the governor or local authorities. "By passing this bill, you will ensure that no Floridian, in lawful possession of a firearm, must leave it...

The Bureau of Land Management vowed Saturday that it would continue its legal fight to remove illegal cattle from a rural Nevada range after ending a tense weeklong standoff with a rancher and his supporters. "After 20 years and multiple court orders to remove the trespass cattle, [rancher Cliven] Bundy owes the American taxpayers in excess of $1 million. The BLM will continue to work to resolve the matter administratively and judicially," a statement from the bureau said. "We ask that all parties in the area remain peaceful and law-abiding as the Bureau of Land Management and National Park Service...

Democrat Mike Dickinson recently promised to wage “war” on the NRA, Tea Party and Fox News. On Thursday, he was confronted by Greta Van Susteren in a tense exchange that ended with an embarrassing admission. “Why do you hate me?” Van Susteren asked, immediately getting to business. Dickinson, who apparently is not actually running for Congress, said he has a problem with her network as a whole. “Well, but no, what about me? I’m Fox News, I’m ‘trash,’ apparently, so what’s wrong with me?” the TV host responded. Dickinson conceded that he didn’t have a problem with Van Susteren personally,...

A loaded 380. caliber firearm with a round chambered was discovered in the rear pocket of a San Antonio (SAT) passenger during Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) screening. Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes announced that she spoke Wednesday with two of the state House Democratic staffers who raised the allegations of sexual harassment against former state Rep. John Arnold. According to the campaign, Grimes talked with Yolanda Costner and Cassaundra Cooper about issues affecting women in the workplace and asked them what to do with the $250 campaign contribution Arnold gave her campaign last year. And the campaign did confirm that Grimes will keep the contribution from Arnold after the conversation with the two women. The press release reads: Alison Lundergan Grimes also asked their personal...

A long-shot candidate for the Iowa senate has released a commercial in which he promotes term limits for senators and also threatens to shoot the balls off a "sexual predator" who killed his sister. Bob Quast, unsurprisingly, is a supporter of gun rights. "If you are the sexual predator and sociopath who murdered my sister Lynette and you come to my front door to do harm to my girls, I'm going to use my Glock - to blow your balls off," he says, smiling. Quast's sister, Lynnette Craft, was killed in June 1999, by her husband, the ABC affiliate reported....

John Paul Stevens served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court from 1975 to 2010. This essay is excerpted from his new book, “Six Amendments: How and Why We Should Change the Constitution.” Following the massacre of grammar-school children in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012, high-powered weapons have been used to kill innocent victims in more senseless public incidents. Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns.

The Kansas legislature has passed the current gun law reform bill by overwhelming margins and sent it to Governor Brownback for signature or veto. The bill, HB2578/SB447, strengthens state preemption language that limits the power of local governments to chill the exercise of second amendment rights. It requires adequate signage to prohibit the open carry of firearms by premises that choose to do so. There is no penalty for open carrying in such premises unless the open carrier refuses to leave when asked to do so. Guns that are forfeited to law enforcement agencies are mostly prohibited from being...

ANTIOCH -- An Antioch jewelry store owner shot and killed an armed robber Friday afternoon and police said a customer was also shot during the heist, police said. The robbery at the Hardy Nix Jewelry store at 3600 Delta Fair Boulevard shut down a major street as authorities swarmed the surrounding area looking for a second suspect who escaped the store after the 4:27 p.m. robbery. The female customer who was shot was taken to a hospital with a non-life threatening wound, according to Antioch police Lt. Robin Kelley. The woman "just happened to be in the way" as the...

Federal authorities said today that they are likely within the next three months to announce additional charges and new defendants in the criminal case that involves Sen. Leland Yee and more than two dozen others accused of various crimes including running guns, selling drugs and arranging murder-for-hire. "While investigation by the Grand Jury is necessarily secret... it makes good sense to generally notify the Court and opposing counsel that additional charges and, potentially, additional defendants are inevitable," prosecutors wrote in a court filing today. Authorities continue to investigate possible racketeering and criminal violations and hope to return additional indictments in...

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin turned Attorney General Eric Holder’s veiled threat to a congressman back on himself Wednesday, saying his idea about an identification bracelet for gun owners was a notion better left untouched. Specifically, she threw Mr. Holder’s own words to Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert back at him: “Eric, ‘You don’t want to go there, buddy,’ ” Mrs. Palin wrote on her Facebook page. Along with the letter, she posted a picture of three bracelets from her personal jewelry collection: One that honors the U.S. military. Another that reads, “Don’t tread on me.” And the third that celebrates...
