Navajo Nation Tribal Council officials are reviewing a proposal that would require tribal land residents to register their firearms. The Daily Times reports the proposed bill would require residents to register firearms such as automatic guns, rifles and shotguns to the Navajo Nation Police Department. The bill would allow the police department to maintain a registry which would include the firearm's serial number, registration date and the owner's name and address. If measure is passed, current gun owners would have 180 days from the bill's approval to register their guns with police. New gun owners would have 180 days from...

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) released the following statement today on the Senate’s vote to eliminate the 60-vote threshold on Supreme Court nominations: “Today’s vote to eliminate the 60-vote threshold on Supreme Court nominations represents a regrettable setback for the institution of the United States Senate. I fear today’s action will irreparably damage the uniqueness of the Senate, and along with it, any hope of restoring meaningful bipartisanship.“When then-Majority Leader Harry Reid changed the Senate rules in 2013, there was no one more critical of his actions than me. I fought hard to convince my colleagues of...
  • Feds, Wildlife Groups Use Bogus Endangered Species Science to Block Border Fence

Wildlife conservation groups are collaborating with a federal government agency to halt construction of the southern border wall by fudging science to claim that unimpeded trans-border corridors are essential to an “endangered species” with 99% of its population in Mexico. Under the plan, large areas of Arizona and New Mexico would be prohibited from erecting a border wall so that jaguars—which don’t even occupy the area—can roam back and forth between the two countries. More than ¾ million acres in Arizona and New Mexico would be designated as critical habitat for jaguars under the federal Endangered Species Act (ESA), which...

Perpetual GOP malcontent Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) called lawmakers “stupid” who believed invoking the so-called “nuclear option” to confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court would ultimately improve the Senate, during a gaggle with reporters Tuesday. The Arizona senator was prompted Tuesday by an unidentified reporter to react to individuals who say “the Senate will be a better place” after the nuclear option is invoked. “I would like to meet that idiot,” McCain fired back, “I would like to meet that numbskull that would say that, that after 200 years — at least 100 years — of this tradition...

“I would like to meet that idiot, I’d like to meet the numskull that would say that,” he told reporters. “That after 200 years, at least 100 years of this tradition, where the Senate has functioned pretty well, they think it would be a good idea to blow it up.” McCain said changing the rules would be a “body blow to the institution,” adding he thinks it puts them on a slippery slope. .. McCain said he’s had numerous conversations with members on both sides of the aisle in an attempt to strike an agreement on the matter.

Maricopa County’s new sheriff announced Tuesday that he’s shutting down a complex of jail tents that helped make his predecessor, Joe Arpaio, a national law enforcement figure. Paul Penzone said at a news conference that the nearly 24-year-old Tent City complex will be closing in 45 to 60 days. Arpaio opened the complex in August 1993 as a way of easing jail overcrowding. The barbed-wire-surrounded compound was part of a broader campaign by Arpaio to enact get-tough measures in his jails, such as banning cigarettes, creating inmate chain gangs and dressing them in old-time striped prison uniforms. Closing Tent City...

Sen. John McCain is blaming the Trump administration for a chemical weapons attack in Syria Tuesday morning that killed dozens of people. The Guardian reported 58 people were killed in the attack on Khan Shikhun in Idlib province. According to the report, planes carrying weapons laced with unidentified chemicals raided the city and victims showed symptoms similar to those caused by sarin gas exposure.

U.S. Sen. John McCain on Monday announced that he will support an upcoming effort by his fellow Republicans to win Senate confirmation of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court by changing the chamber's rules in order to overcome Democratic opposition. McCain, in remarks to reporters, said he had "no choice" but to go along with a change in rules ending a tradition of 60 votes in the 100-member Senate needed to advance Supreme Court nominees to a final vote. He said he would support the rule change "because we need to confirm Gorsuch." In the past, McCain has strongly...

PHOENIX — Attorney General Mark Brnovich is making a last-ditch effort to let Gov. Doug Ducey deny driver's licenses to "dreamers.'' Legal briefs filed Wednesday ask the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn rulings by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals which has concluded that those in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program are in this country legally. More to the point, the judges said Arizona has no right to unilaterally decide the issue for itself. That is precisely what Jan Brewer did in 2012 when she issued an executive order declaring that DACA, instituted by the Obama administration,...

Advocates of abolishing the $1 Federal Reserve note are at it again, this time hoping that President Donald Trump and conservative Republicans will finally side with their three-pronged approach to revamping the nation’s currency system. Under S. 759, introduced March 29 by Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., the government would end production of the $1 Federal Reserve note, revise the composition of the 5-cent coin, and suspend production of 1-cent coins. While the draft legislation calls for an end to paper dollar notes and the cent, it is silent on dollar coin production. Backers of the legislation...

PHOENIX — Claiming they have been treated with "contempt,'' an attorney for residents near Davis Monthan Air Force Base is telling a judge he needs to order the Air Force to conduct a full-blown environmental impact statement on the effects of flight operations there. In new court filings, Joy Herr-Cardillo said the military in 2012 did do a less formal "environmental assessment.'' It concluded there would be no significant impact on those living in and around the flight path of the Tucson facility. But she told U.S. District Court Judge Javier Soto the assessment was flawed because it used 2009...

They looked like brand-new blue jeans, but Jock Taylor knew those Levi's sat in an old family trunk for decades - maybe a century. Judging from their size (W: 44, L: 37) they probably belonged to his great-great grandfather Solomon Warner, an Arizona pioneer from the 1800s. If so, they're worth a small fortune, says Brit Eaton, a dealer in old jeans who actually searches abandoned mines for inventory. "Vintage denim can be worth thousands of dollars," Eaton says. "Finding Levi's pre-1900 is a massive rarity. That's the Holy Grail." ------------- Auctioneer Daniel Buck Soules recalls Taylor approaching him. "Why...
  • Get ready to remove plastic covers from your license plate

PHOENIX — Got one of those plastic covers or films over your license plate? Be prepared to get out your screwdriver or razor blade to take it off. Gov. Doug Ducey on Tuesday signed legislation making it illegal to put any covering or substance on a plate "that obscures from any angle the number, characters, year validating tabs or name of the jurisdiction issuing the plate.'' The measure takes effect 90 days after the end of the session, meaning probably not until sometime in August. Violators would be subject to civil fines decided by a judge. The issue has been...

Today's governor, Doug Ducey, is demonstrating the continuing pertinence of the limited-government conservatism with which Sen. Goldwater shaped the modern GOP, after himself being shaped by life in the leave-me-alone spirit of the wide open spaces of near-frontier Arizona. Last year, Ducey, now 52, told National Review, "If you want to learn something new, you need to read something old. As Barry Goldwater wrote in 'Conscience of a Conservative,' 'My aim is not to pass laws, it’s to repeal them.' " Ducey was preaching what he already had practiced. He took office in January 2015, as the Super Bowl was about...

It certainly appears as if the political career and legacy of neocon traitor John McCain, is starting to crumble all around him. Having rode the wave of being a Vietnam POW almost all the way to the Oval Office but falling short, the twilight of McCain’s career has been marked nothing but scandals, and he has been reduced to little more than a talking head most recently associated with spouting baseless Russian connections against the President. Having failed miserably in each of his attempts to discredit Trump, including allegedly being the source who passed the fake Russian dossier to the...
