Boston Red Sox fans who attend Tuesday night's game against the New York Yankees will no longer receive David Ortiz bobbleheads. The team promised to distribute Ortiz bobbleheads to the first 15,000 fans entering Fenway Park before Boston's game against the Yankees, but Red Sox president Sam Kennedy said he elected to postpone the promotion after doing a quality check. "I thought the bobbleheads were an inaccurate portrayal of David," Kennedy said. "To go further, I thought the facial features were racially insensitive."

God's man on the diamond? The sports fan in me says there’s no way. Tim Tebow hasn’t played baseball since high school, and that was 11 years ago. The guy is a very impressive physical/athletic specimen, but the skill and timing required to hit a ball coming at you at 97 miles per hour is not something you can just put aside for more than a decade and then pick up again because you’re big and strong. That’s what the sports fan in me says. I very much appreciate Tebow’s commitment to his faith and his willingness to speak of...

American swimmer Lilly King had some choice words, as well as a finger wag, Sunday night for Russian counterpart Yulia Efimova, who was twice banned for doping but was surprisingly reinstated for the Rio Olympics Saturday. Efimova, the reigning world champion in the 100 meter breaststroke, has a long history with using substances to get a leg-up on her competition. She was suspended for 16 months in 2013 when anabolic substances were found in her system, and received a provisional ban (which was later lifted) earlier this year for using meldonium. in their rulings on Russia's state-sponsored doping scandal, The...

Team USA's swimming team are celebrating a double victory tonight after winning two gold medals. Michael Phelps takes home his 19th gold after winning the men's 4x100m freestyle relay. The 31-year-old, 22-time Olympic medalist, swam the second leg of the relay for Team USA - despite not competing in any freestyle events at the U.S. trials or in the preliminaries in Rio. He was cheered on by his girlfriend Nicole Johnson, who was sat with their son Boomer, and Phelps' mom Deborah.

U.S. Olympian Katie Ledecky is the world record holder in the 400-, 800- and 1500-meter freestyles, and the American record holder in the 500-, 1000- and 1650-yard freestyles. In the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she will compete in the 200-, 400-, and 800-meter freestyle. She has won Gold medals in the 2012 London Olympics and again in the 2016 Rio Olympics. But before every race Ledecky, a faithful Catholic, offers a Hail Mary. “I do say a prayer – or two – before any race. The Hail Mary is a beautiful prayer and I find that it calms me.” she said.In an interview with...

Without the teeniest sense of irony, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has proposed that America’s Olympic medal winners should not have to pay taxes on the cash prizes they are awarded with their medals. Schumer’s reasoning behind lifting the tax? Because “hard work” and excellence shouldn’t be punished. Seriously: Video at link In a press release from his office Schumer said: “Our Olympian and Paralympic athletes should be worried about breaking world records, not breaking the bank, when they earn a medal,” said ‎Schumer. “Most countries subsidize their athletes; the very least we can do is make sure our athletes don’t...

Simone Biles has quickly become the favorite to dominate in this year’s gymnastics competitions in Rio. Her routines are nearly flawless and everyone has been in awe of her amazing skill and collected demeanor, barely flinching under the immense pressure of the judges. What is it that drives her to be the best?To answer that question, Us magazine recently asked Biles to empty her gymnastics bag in hopes of finding a secret formula to her success. While most of the contents of her bag were no surprise, the reporter noticed a white rosary that fell out. Biles explained, “My mom,...

Liberalism gave us women's sports. Now liberalism is taking them away With reports of dead bodies and excrement floating in the water, the threat of Zika and the Russian doping scandal, the Rio Olympics appears the Frankenstein of athletic events. And now Rio seems dopey in another way: owing to political correctness, a runner with, reportedly, no womb or ovaries but internal testes will be allowed to compete with women. This person is South African middle-distance competitor Caster Semenya. I wrote of Semenya in 2009, back when Semenya (I’m not satisfied that Semenya is female, so henceforth I’ll refer to...

The United States is sending 292 women to the Summer Olympics— the most women who have ever competed at an Olympics for a single country.

Organizers of the Rio Summer Olympics provide an average of 41 condoms and 17 packets of lube per athlete competing at the games. The 450,000 prophylactics distributed include 100,000 female condoms. The number does not include the rubbers handed out by national Olympic committees. Australia, for instance, issues to its team members super-strength condoms, which allegedly provide “near-complete anti-viral protection against Zika virus in laboratory studies.”

Michael Jordan came out of the closet to support our police officers. In a statement shared via The Undefeated on Monday morning, Jordan said the following: “As a proud American, a father who lost his own dad in a senseless act of violence, and a black man, I have been deeply troubled by the deaths of African-Americans at the hands of law enforcement and angered by the cowardly and hateful targeting and killing of police officers. I grieve with the families who have lost loved ones, as I know their pain all too well. “I was raised by parents who...

There is far more to it than two armoured horse riders hurtling towards each other with 12ft lances. Jousting demands levels of athleticism, agility and equestrianism that make it an ideal candidate for the Olympics, English Heritage argues. The organisation has launched a campaign to get jousting recognised as an Olympic sport in time for Tokyo 2020.“We are being deadly serious,” said Lucy Hutchings, English Heritage’s head of projects. “It is an incredible spectator sport, a really fascinating thing to watch. The skill of the knight and the horses make it a great thing to witness … we absolutely believe...

Just a note that Felix Diaz wore an "All Lives Matter" t-shirt during the decision (a draw, then after further review a win for Felix). Brave guy nonetheless, these days.

When Vanderbilt University football player Cory Batey and three of his buddies raped a 21-year-old white woman on June 23, 2013, he said this to her: “That’s for 400 years of slavery, you bitch!” Speaking at Batey’s sentencing hearing this Friday, the unnamed victim described how even after the sexual assault, the football player continued to abuse her by degrading her with more hateful speech and urinating on her face, according to The Tennessean. “Something permanent snapped that day,” she said. “I felt myself detach from my body. Now, I feel like I’m walking around in the shell of someone...

This year’s “ESPY Awards†on ABC opened with NBA stars Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James delivering a message regarding last week’s death of two African-Americans at the hands of law enforcement, and the Dallas attack on police officers that left five dead and several others injured. “We cannot ignore the realities of the current state of America,†Anthony said. “The events of the past week have put a spotlight on the injustice, distrust and anger that have plagued so many of us. The system is broken. The problems are not new. The violence and the racial...

“Between innings. It worked out well just how crazy it was,” Strawberry added. “It kind of worked out that way. You point (a woman) out and tell the kid (to go get her).” By “the kid,” Strawberry means a clubhouse attendant. In his Sirius XM interview, Strawberry also talked about drinking in the clubhouse and smoking cigarettes in the dugout. Oh, to be a baseball player in the ’80s.

Four police officers walked out of basketball arena (Target Center), and away from extra-duty security assignment, after Minnesota WNBA players show up in activist warm-up gear and spout anti-police Black Lives Matter commentary. Four off-duty Minneapolis police officers working the Minnesota Lynx game at Target Center on Saturday night walked off the job after the players held a news conference denouncing racial profiling, then wore Black Lives Matter pregame warm-up jerseys. […] The three-time WNBA champions wore black T-shirts that read “Change starts with us, justice and accountability” and on the back had Philando Castile’s and Alton Sterling’s names along...

id you hear the latest about Tim Tebow? He prayed with a woman as her husband was dying from a heart attack during an airplane flight. Isn't that disgusting? "I think I'm going to throw up," one commenter wrote. There have been thousands more like that posted on websites that carried that story. They should provide plenty of material for psychiatrists studying Tebow Derangement Syndrome (TDS). The malady triggers foaming at the mouth among two groups. One believes Tebow would be a great pro quarterback if only the anti-Christian NFL hadn't blackballed him. That has waned a bit as Tebow...
