It appears a small plane was forced to land on Interstate 26 on Thursday evening. Several News 13 viewers have called the newsroom, reporting a crash. And video shows the aircraft on fire. Asheville fire officials have confirmed the forced landing. An airport spokesperson said the aircraft reported problems and said it needed assistance. A jury in Ashville, North Carolina has found a man not guilty of taking a bear out of season, and of discharging a firearm in city limits, by reason of self defense.   Ernest James Page had always  claimed that he shot the 150-175 pound bear in self defense.  The jury discussed the issue for over two hours, but unanimously agree with Page.  It is significant that Page went to a jury trial, using a court appointed public defender, and won.  The District Attorney justified charging Page with these remarks: Moore said he has dismissed some cases in the past...

A group of seventy-five to 100 people staged an impromptu march against Amendment One downtown early Wednesday morning. Starting spontaneously just hours after the people of North Carolina voted to amend the state's constitution to ensure that marriage between one man and one woman will be the state's only legal domestic union, the march at times bordered on becoming a riot.
