The dashcam video released to the public of the violent arrest of Sandra Bland was edited.Bland was a 28-year-old Black Lives Matter civil rights activist and vocal critic of police brutality who died in police custody after a Texas officer pulled her over for a traffic violation, ordered her out of her car when she refused to put out her cigarette, and aggressively arrested her. Police say Bland committed suicide, yet the Waller County prosecutor says Bland’s case is “being treated just as it would be a murder investigation.”The Texas Department of Public Safety uploaded dashcam police video of the...

A new art exhibit about the Michael Brown police shooting in Ferguson is on display in Chicago. The piece features a life-size portrayal of Michael Brown after he was killed last year in Ferguson. It also includes a black statue of liberty, and a noose dangling from a neon sign. The exhibit also features a plaque with the words “I Can’t Breath”; referencing the Eric Garner police involved death in New York. A Brown family member praises the exhibit. The artist is a white woman from New Orleans. She says it represents white privilege in America and how it...

Following some recent discussions about the way I created an image of an Aurora (see video below) using Photoshop layers and the post-processing work I undertook on an image I captured in the Antelope Canyon in Page, Arizona (where I introduced a fake shaft of light), I have decided to write an article about Image Manipulation.
  • The Course of Empire: Thomas Cole's Warning to America

"Thomas Cole, America's premier landscape painter of the 1820's and 1830's, constructed the idea for his series, The Course of Empire, from a variety of influences. He began his intense study of Europe and its art in 1829 by sailing to England, where he met and talked with influential artists such as J.M.W. Turner and John Martin. He studied the works of those artists and others in the British galleries of the time. Scholars recognize today that those artists' influence upon him was strikingly pervasive. Cole also felt the perishability of man's works when he traveled in Europe and saw...
  • trying to identify (photographer's?) weighted clamp on canopy (tent) pole

Does anyone recognize this? It's a weighted clamp, used by a vendor at the farmers market to hold down his tent from blowing away. He said he got it from a photographers' supply -- that it's something photographers use to keep their equipment steady in outdoor shooting conditions. I'm trying to buy something like this, but I can't look for it until I know what it's called. Thanks....

Our friends in London have new delight… appropriately close to where Tyburn Tree stood, near Marble Arch. From ihorror.com: There’s a new statue on public display in London that is meant to “inspire” and “delight” those who pass it on their daily commute, though we’re thinking words like “terrify,” “horrify” and “petrify” are more fitting for this particular piece of art. It’s called ‘She Guardian,’ and Russian artist Dashi Namdakov has spent the last two years sculpting the towering figure out of four massive tons of bronze. Measuring 36-feet high, the artist says the attention-grabbing piece expresses a sense of maternal protectiveness, which...

  • Biker Thugs Converge On Arizona Mosque Armed Looking For War (No bias here!)

Recently, Texas has reclaimed its cherished position as the nation’s “epicenter of right wing-extremism” with a few specifically bizarre occurrences that epitomize exactly what “right-wing extremism” means. But now, the Texas-size extremism is spreading to Arizona and it includes Texas-style armed biker thugs, conspiracy theorists, and anti-Muslim sentiments that set Texas apart as right-wing extremist central. About a month ago anti-Muslim hate-freak Pamela Geller and her acolytes, none of whom comprehend that America is not a Christian theocracy, converged on Texas to insult and incite anger in the American Muslim community with a cartoon contest intended to mock the Muslim...

Gurr test-driving an early prototype of his Autopia vehicle in 1955.George Clooney may get top billing in his new film, Tomorrowland, but design visionary Gurr is the real star.In his 27 years as a Disney Imagineer, Bob Gurr was known for doing the impossible: He designed a submarine fleet, the cars of Autopia, and the Monorail that soars above the park on a single beam. With the opening of Tomorrowland in 1955, Gurr shaped a vision of the future (1986 to be exact) that still feels out of reach. Six decades after Gurr began creating ride vehicles for the theme...

I love Pamela Geller. However, when Bill O'Reilly and conservative Laura Ingraham said it was foolish of Pam to insult over a billion Muslims by hosting a “Draw Muhammad” contest, I thought perhaps they were right. Muslims live under an Islamic legal system called sharia law, which prohibits drawing any image of their prophet, Muhammad. Rush Limbaugh sided with Pamela. Rush pointed out that while the mainstream media and pundits want us to be sensitive to this rule of sharia, that same media flaunts and promotes homosexual marriage, which offends Muslims. Muslims put homosexuals to death. My feisty part-Cherokee, mostly...

Via Mediaite, this is a lame answer but not as lame as some commenters in Headlines are treating it, I think. They’re not backing away from the Pam Geller event because they’re afraid of being targeted by jihadis. These guys will be targeted forever, whether or not they continue to blaspheme Islam, and they know it. Jean-Baptiste Thoret, the magazine’s film critic and the man in the glasses here, told an audience a few days ago that the surviving cartoonist who drew the “Je suis Charlie” cover is now a de facto prisoner with constant armed protection even though he’s...

I haven't posted in a while because I started doing projects that are more time intensive. I decided to stop doing graphics/memes for the most part, in favor of going back to my first love, illustration.I still plan to do the occasional graphic like this one I created recently... But I missed drawing and illustrating, and I essentially gave it up to create all of the graphics I've created over the years because I don't have time to do both. Anyway, here are a couple of pieces I was fairly happy with, and I wanted to share them here. :-)...
