On April 15, American patriots will make their voice heard in more than 1,500 cities across the nation through Taxed Enough Already (TEA) party rallies that protest the runaway spending by President Obama and Congress. But will the drive-by media cover this historic event as headline news? Or will it get buried on page 15?

The democrats demanded, and Bush (foolishly) accepted their "demands" for a stimulus to fight the Democrat-created "fuel crisis" of February, March, April, and May of last year. For most IRS filers - but for no illegal aliens and tax cheats, this was 600.00 per individual, 1200.00 for married - no kids, etc. A substantial amount if used properly. Easily forgettable if it was wasted on trivial junk or fast food and lottery tickets and "stuff". As most would be in many cases. But .... The IRS claims it was taxable, it woul dchange your "taxes" for 2008. This is true....

Red Planet Cartoons commemorated the annual feeding of the federal Leviathan: April 15th, Tax Day. The above cartoon kicks off an informative post about The Fair Tax. “[P]assing the FairTax would constitute the biggest transfer of power from government to the people in the history of this republic.” -–from the book FairTax: The Truth: Answering the Critics by congressman John Linder and Neal Boortz, p.60. For those who need information on the Fair Tax idea, RPC presents the following, easy-to-digest table.

Edward Hudgins ---- H.L. Mencken once wrote that, “Every election is a sort of advance auction sale of stolen goods.” April 15 is the date on which the goods are stolen and on a Tuesday in early November—Election Day—the loot is distributed. The thieves, for the most part, are our politicians. Harsh words? Not nearly as harsh as the moral monstrosity that is the current tax system. Let’s consider. First, the tax system is premised on the principle of punishing the productive. The so-called “progressive” nature of the system means that the more one produces and the more correspondingly prosperous...

Taxes: Resting easier now that filing day is over? That would be premature. Today — Tuesday, May 1 — is when we're really free of taxes. But not for another year, just another eight months. According to the Tax Foundation, a Washington-based research group, it was not until Monday, April 30, that Americans had "earned enough money to pay this year's tax obligations at the federal, state and local levels." For those keeping score, that's 120 working days, even with the tax cuts pushed through by the Bush administration. The federal government's tax bill alone requires 79 days, making it...

I noted with interest the letter to the editor from Mr. Ed Outlaw with his concerns for the Fair Tax plan. I have promoted the Fair Tax for several years now, and I have rarely come across anyone that was such a proponent of the present tax system. The Income Tax is out of control, inefficient, and penalizes U.S. business and manufacturing competing within an escalating global economy. The Fair Tax is a simple alternative method to fund the Federal Government that is fair, simple, and visible. As a by-product, it just happens to solve some very serious economic problems...

On Tax Day, $125 billion in waste By Matt Schumsky April 14, 2006 Another dreaded April 15th – Tax Day – is nearly upon us. Our annual tax ritual requires over 26 hours from the average person filing a standard 1040, and over 60 percent of Americans seek professional help. The reason: The U.S. tax code now exceeds 60,000 pages, and those pages often give conflicting advice. No wonder that in 1976, presidental candidate Jimmy Carter declared, “Our income tax system is a disgrace to the human race.” In many ways, things are worse today than they were then. Our...

For Immediate ReleaseApril 15, 2006 President's Radio Address Audio In Focus: Jobs and Economy THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. Monday is Tax Day, and that means many of you are busy finishing up your tax returns. The good news is that this year Americans will once again keep more of their hard-earned dollars because of the tax cuts we passed in 2001 and 2003. An important debate is taking place in Washington over whether to keep these tax cuts in place or to raise your taxes. For the sake of American workers and their families, and for our...

The mere mention of today's date on the calendar gives the shakes to millions of tax procrastinators. So we're sorry to report that this filing year the complexities of the tax code got a whole lot worse -- especially for the record number of Americans who will be ensnared by the dreaded alternative minimum tax, or AMT. You know the tax code is headed toward a train wreck when Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill -- who don't agree on much of anything these days -- have both concluded that this shadow tax system must be scrapped. The AMT was...

Dear Editor, I've just read a new best-seller, which I highly recommend to you and your readers: "The Fair Tax Book, Saying Goodbye to the Income Tax and the IRS." The co-authors are "reformed lawyer" and syndicated talk show host Neal Boortz, and Congressman John Linder, R-Ga. Linder is also the principal author/sponsor of The Fair Tax Bill (H.R. 25), currently before Congress. In the interest of brevity (the book is only 180 pages, by the way), I'll quote from the back of the dust jacket. "What the Fair Tax will do for America: eliminate the income tax and the...

IT'S YOUR PAYCHECK - KEEP IT ALL FAIRTAX CALCULATOR HR25/S25 Now that April 15 is past, it's time to tally up the tax score. Go to the FairTax calculator, http://www.pafairtax.org/calc.php and using 2004 figures, figure out (anonymously) what you would have spent in 2004 in taxes if we had the FairTax, the simple, honest, and progressive national retail sales tax, instead of our current complex income tax/FICA tax system. TOTAL INCOME TAX + TOTAL FICA = TOTAL FAIRTAX : For your household, please remember to make an honest and accurate comparison. FairTax will fund social security and medicare with 1/3...

April 15: Dependence Day Edward Hudgins is the executive director of the Objectivist Center As we rush to meet the April 15 deadline to file our tax returns, many of us fail to realize that those 1040 forms are doing more than just making all of us personally poorer. The tax code is a principal instrument that creates and sustains the politicized, partisan, uncivil, contentious conflict society that so many Americans bemoan. Why can't we all just get along? Here's why. Taxes are meant to pay for the legitimate functions of government, and America's Founders were clear that those functions...

It is a rare thing when the American people can get excited about a piece of federal legislation that involves taxes. Normally, our elected officials are trying very hard to figure out how to sugarcoat yet another tax increase so they can supplement their habit of funding things like museums for ground hogs and rodeos and tropical biospheres in the farm belt. But a bill sponsored by US Representative John Linder offers a “once in a lifetime” opportunity for our lawmakers to not only do what is right by the American people, but do something that makes them look good...
