Attorney Michael Bromwich, the face of fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe's legal team, is representing Christine Blasey Ford for free, according to his assistant and spokeswoman. Bromwich joined Ford’s legal team over the weekend, as she prepares to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee about Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh allegedly sexually assaulting her in high school. Bromwich, a former Justice Department inspector general, joined two other attorneys on Ford's team — Debra Katz and Lisa Banks, who both work at Marshall & Banks. Bromwich added firepower, but also potential cost to the Kavanaugh accuser’s legal representation.

Former Justice Department inspector general and federal prosecutor Michael Bromwich and his consulting firm have joined the legal team supporting Brett Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford. Bromwich tweeted Saturday that he was “honored to be joining” Blasey’s attorneys Debra Katz and Lisa Blanks as she prepares testimony for the Senate Judiciary Committee about her allegation that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when they were both in high school. Bromwich, who helped investigate the Iran-Contra scandal for the federal Office of Independent Counsel, is also representing former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe. McCabe, a frequent target of President Donald Trump, was fired...

Republicans on Sunday seized on reports that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein last year proposed secretly recording President Trump, in order to renew calls for a special counsel investigation of alleged bias within the Department of Justice (DOJ). “[Trump] shouldn’t fire Rosenstein unless you believe Rosenstein’s lying. He said he did not do the things alleged, but there’s a bureaucratic coup against President Trump being discovered here,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said on “Fox News Sunday.” “Before the election, the people in question tried to taint the election, tip it in [Hillary] Clinton’s favor; after the election they’re trying to...

Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, has agreed to testify before the Senate next week, her lawyer said Saturday. The exact terms and timing of her testimony remain unclear, as negotiations between Ford's lawyers and staff for the Senate Judiciary Committee remain ongoing. Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) had given Ford's lawyers until Saturday afternoon to decide on whether she would proceed with testifying. An email from Ford's lawyers sent to the Judiciary Committee shortly before a 2:30 p.m. deadline said Ford had accepted the panel's "request to provide...

WASHINGTON — The deputy attorney general, Rod J. Rosenstein, suggested last year that he secretly record President Trump in the White House to expose the chaos consuming the administration, and he discussed recruiting cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Mr. Trump from office for being unfit.

On an October afternoon before the 2016 election, a huge banner was unfurled from the Manhattan Bridge in New York City: Vladimir V. Putin against a Russian-flag background, and the unlikely word “Peacemaker” below. It was a daredevil happy birthday to the Russian president, who was turning 64. In November, shortly after Donald J. Trump eked out a victory that Moscow had worked to assist, an even bigger banner appeared, this time on the Arlington Memorial Bridge in Washington: the face of President Barack Obama and “Goodbye Murderer” in big red letters. Police never identified who had hung the banners,...

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s actions, as recounted by the New York Times Friday, are the equivalent of an attempted coup -- a plot to overthrow the president. As the Times reveals, Rosenstein was furious that Democrats blamed him for the firing of FBI Director James Comey. Rosenstein, who had volunteered to write the firing memorandum, was “regretful and emotional.” His behavior was described as “erratic.” He blamed Trump. So, in an apparent act of vengeance, he proposed secretly recording the president to try to gain damaging information about him. He solicited others to wear wires, including Andrew McCabe, who...

The House Judiciary Committee announced on Friday that it intends to subpoena memos from former acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe detailing reported comments made by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in which he proposed secretly taping conversations with President Trump and initiating a process to remove the president by invoking the 25th Amendment. “I intend to subpoena “McCabe Memos” & all other docs that have been requested & not provided,” the committee tweeted Friday evening from its verified Twitter account. The New York Times was the first to report Rosenstein’s comments, in which he reportedly sought to recruit Attorney General...

Memos written by Andrew McCabe, then the acting FBI director, say deputy attorney general Rod J. Rosenstein suggested he secretly record his talks with President Trump, and that Rosenstein discussed possibly trying to remove him from office, according to people familiar with the matter. The account, first reported by the New York Times, paints Rosenstein as so concerned in May 2017 in the wake of Trump’s firing of then-FBI director James B. Comey that he contemplated secretly recording conversations with the president. He also initiated discussions about invoking the 25th amendment, which details how the Cabinet can decide whether a...
