WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — An Amish resident of central Pennsylvania is challenging the photo identification requirement to purchase a firearm, saying his religious beliefs prevent him from being photographed. Andrew Hertzler argues in a suit filed Friday in U.S. Middle District Court that the requirement violates his religious freedom and his constitutional right to possess a firearm. Hertzler said his beliefs as a member of an Amish community in Lancaster County bar photographs being taken of him, but he was prohibited from buying a gun in June for self-defense purposes.

The Amish may have a reputation for raising barns lightning-fast, but this project has taken 10 years. It has taken that long for members of the Old Order Amish who want to build homes in Eau Claire County to complete the permitting process. The county refused to accommodate to their religious beliefs. Members of the Old Order strictly adhere to Amish religious and cultural traditions, and they reject electric appliances, modern plumbing and other innovations. The county welcomed the Amish when they first began settling in Eau Claire in the 1970s. “Bridge Creek officials say that if the Amish hadn’t...

Bullets spraying from a suspected gang-related beef outside Fenway Park early yesterday morning wounded two women at a popular meet-up corner, broke glass at the entrance to the Red Sox ticket office and punched a baseball-size hole in a window at Boston Beer Works. “The bullet went in there. We have no idea where the bullet went,” Boston Beer Works general manager Dan Quintino told the Herald as he carefully peeled back the duct tape temporarily patching the damage just above his head. Shattered glass littered the floor at the base of a large beer vat overlooking Brookline Avenue.

A black criminal resists or attacks a white cop or a mostly non-black watchman, and dies as a result, and the whole country spins wildly into paroxysms of hysteria. Orgies of non-stop rioting and looting commence. Police departments and municipal governments enact emergency measures, costing taxpayers millions upon millions of dollars. Lawyers, politicians, and officials hustle to the microphones. Reporters, analysts, and pundits go into hyper-drive. Businesses burn to the ground. Entire city blocks explode in flames and mayhem and murder. The federal government doles out mountains of cash for leftist community agitators to go in and egg on the...
