District police are searching for a group of teenagers who they said attacked a woman and her child in their sport utility vehicle in Georgetown earlier this week and smashed the sun roof with a rock. The incident occurred about 10:30 a.m. near Wisconsin Avenue and Q Street Northwest, near the Georgetown Library and moments after the woman had strapped her daughter into a car seat after the child's morning music class. Authorities are searching for a man they say raped a 40-year-old woman during a robbery on the Lower East Side Thursday morning. Police say this same man attempted to rape one other woman and attacked another earlier in the morning.

INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis Metro Police officers say "multiple" people were injured in a shooting inside Washington Square Mall on the Indianapolis east side. It's happening at 10202 E. Washington Street. Several police cars are currently parked outside the southeast entrance of the mall, near the Target store. Police say three, maybe four, people were struck by gunfire. Their conditions are unknown. The mall, a former Simon Malls property, is now operated by Jones Lang Lasalle. An Indianapolis woman tweeted this post about being injured in the shooting, but so far WTHR has not confirmed details of any injuries.

TAMPA -- A suspect shot this morning after Tampa police said he attempted to drown an officer and a police K-9 has died of his injuries. Kobvey Igbuhay, 18, died at the hospital where he was taken after being shot during the altercation with an officer. Police said the altercation occurred after four suspects in a stolen car fled into a swampy area to elude police. WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — An Amish resident of central Pennsylvania is challenging the photo identification requirement to purchase a firearm, saying his religious beliefs prevent him from being photographed. Andrew Hertzler argues in a suit filed Friday in U.S. Middle District Court that the requirement violates his religious freedom and his constitutional right to possess a firearm. Hertzler said his beliefs as a member of an Amish community in Lancaster County bar photographs being taken of him, but he was prohibited from buying a gun in June for self-defense purposes.

A police officer died after he was shot in the head while chasing a gunman in East Harlem on Tuesday, Police Commissioner William J. Bratton said. The officer was shot around 8:30 p.m. near Franklin D. Roosevelt Drive and 120th Street, the police said. He had been responding to an armed robbery in a park when the chase began, police officials said. The officer, identified as Randolph Holder, 33, was taken in critical condition to Harlem Hospital, where he died a few hours later, the police said.

Seven young males from a Minneapolis basketball Amateur Athletic Union program were arrested and charged with misdemeanors in Wichita, Kan., after assaulting at least three homeless people in downtown Wichita over the weekend, police said. The young males, ages 12 to 18, were in Wichita to play in the Mid America Youth Basketball championships.
