The man killed in Thursday’s shooting was identified by police as Kevin Michael Murray, 36, of Plano. Police said Murray and one of his coworkers, Alireza Nikmanesh of Dallas, began arguing outside the Subway restaurant on Custer Road about 6:20 p.m. During the argument, Nikmanesh took a handgun out of his car and shot Murray several times, police said. An off-duty fire captain saw Murray and began CPR until paramedics arrived and took him to a nearby hospital, where he died.

A Dallas doctor says he wants to punish two women who accused him of choking them during sexual attacks. Dr. Alireza Atef-Zafarmand has taken the unusual step of suing the women, alleging defamation, slander and other wrongdoing. As part of that effort, one of his lawyers revealed her name and details of her medical records in a recent Dallas County state district court filing. That disclosure led the Texas Medical Board to intervene in the suit late...

On the surface, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's visit to Tehran on Aug. 8 to talk with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was another effort to enlist Iran's help in bringing security to Iraq. The real purpose, however, was quite different. Al-Maliki's trip helped smooth the way for the Iranian clerics to install a sister Islamic republic in Iraq. Al-Maliki met with the supreme leader Ali Khamenei, President Ahmadinejad and other senior officials. Maliki told Ahmadinejad that Tehran is playing a "positive and constructive" role in improving security in Iraq. Tehran's leaders were quick to praise al-Maliki. Iranian television broadcast a statement...

Politics & Policies: Iran's elections By Claude Salhani UPI International Editor Published 6/17/2005 9:33 AM WASHINGTON, June 17 (UPI) -- President Bush's denouncing of Iran's electoral system a day before the Islamic Republic went to the polls to choose a new president was seen by Iranian opposition groups as a sign of encouragement and support. Vowing that "America would support those seeking freedom," Bush called the Islamic Republic's electoral system "undemocratic." "Today, Iran is ruled by men who suppress liberty at home and spread terror across the world," he said in a statement released by the White House. "Power is...
