WASHINGTON, Sept 13 (Reuters) - Boeing Co. (BA.N: Quote, Profile, Research) is weighing options for replacing its best-selling 737 and one scenario might include separate aircraft for two markets, the company's senior marketing official said on Wednesday. The 737 family covers the 110- to 200-seat range and is the most popular commercial plane ever with more than 5,000 produced in nearly four decades. There have been several 737 upgrades, including a major overhaul in the early 1990s. With airlines seeking variety in seating capacity and more fuel and operating efficiency, Boeing is studying how to meet expectations and continue to...

"We are disappointed with the news of further delays, but will work with Airbus to minimise the delays and their impact," said a spokesman for Singapore...

New York - In today's marketplace, distinct differences in the way competitive products work have become increasingly rare. Boeing (NYSE: BA) shareholders, rejoice! The company is rolling lucky sevens -- as in 777s, 787s, and 737s. The lifeblood of aircraft manufacturing is the order book, and Boeing has a fat one now. And for a company recently overwhelmed by questions regarding its corporate governance practices and ongoing competition due to forthcoming Airbus product releases, that has to be a nice thing to hear.

Boeing's top airplane salesman apologized to customers yesterday for the "pain" caused by the Boeing Machinists strike, but said the company owed it to airlines to "hold out for a fair and reasonable settlement." Scott Carson also delivered an unusual mea culpa for missteps Boeing made earlier in the decade that led the company to neglect international customers and fall behind its European rival, Airbus, in airplane sales.

A three-month strike would cost the aerospace giant a hefty $1.1 billion in operating profits, according to an internal company analysis prepared for top executives. That's more than the commercial-airplanes unit's profit for all of last year. A one-month strike would be much less costly. But even that could potentially delay by a month the debut of the company's new 787 jet. To avoid that, Boeing is considering alternative suppliers for parts originally scheduled to be made by Machinists at its Auburn plant.
