In a sermon earlier this year, a British Islamist leader outlined how under an “Islamic State” Christians and other non-Muslims would be systematically humiliated and persecuted to encourage their women and children to convert to Islam. Abu Walid, an Islamist affiliated with the hardline Salafi stream, cited sources in the hadith (Islamic teachings outside of the Koran, based on the words of Mohammed’s companions) which detailed how the “People of the Book”—referring to Jews and Christians—were to be treated as second-class citizens, or dhimmis, if they chose not to convert to Islam. Those measures include, among other things: being forced...

My Op-ed in The Australian By Leah Farrall, Australia I have an op-ed piece out in today’s edition of The Australian called “Detentions come back to bite” It’s about Guantanamo blowback now having very real strategic consequences: the formation of a new strategy to kidnap civilians in Afghanistan in order to secure the release of prisoners taken by America. Sally Neighbour has a front page piece derived from my op-ed here “Afghan foreigner kidnap order by al Qaeda leader Mustafa Hamid”. I haven’t seen the broadsheet yet, so I’m not sure if the photos I provided of Hamid are on...

The commander of the Arab fighters in the Russian republic of Chechnya has been killed. The family of Saudi rebel leader Abdul Aziz al-Ghamdi, better known as Abu Walid, has confirmed his death. There has been no official confirmation, and the circumstances are also unclear. Russian authorities held Mr al-Ghamdi responsible for the Moscow metro attack in February in which forty people were killed. In the 1980s, he fought the Russians in Afghanistan and he has been in Chechnya for the last six years.

The strange case of an Iraqi agent caught operating on American soil. His arrest may be the first of many. KHALED DUMEISI, a newspaper publisher in northern Illinois, was surprised when federal agents showed up at a modest condominium in suburban Chicago to arrest the man known to his colleagues in Iraqi intelligence as "Sirhan." He shouldn't have been shocked. First, the FBI, according to a complaint unsealed Wednesday in Illinois, had the goods on Sirhan. Among his offenses: supplying false press credentials for Iraqi intelligence agents; spying on Iraqi opposition leaders--at times, using a mini-camera implanted in the end...
