What’s the point of posting a link to another post? Do you really think that many people care so much about folks who got a less than honorable discharge not receiving benefits that you feel you have to bump it?
What is your point? Let’s lower the bar?
So the lesson is, do good time. The thing is, it’s not that hard. You don’t have to be an exemplary soldier/sailor. I’ve seen some real screwheads get an honorable discharge. They screwed something up badly and the military said, “It wasn’t malicious, so take your honorable and we don’t want to see you again.” From what I’ve seen, you have to really do something maliciously to get an OTH. Even going to NJP/Captain’s Mast isn’t bad enough to get you an OTH if you do it as an E-1/2/3 and keep your nose clean for the rest of your enlistment.
Bottom line: don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.
OTH is actually pretty hard to get; considering some of the crap I pulled while active.
Mines HONORABLE, and my DD-214 is clean.
One point would be to be on the lookout for the establishment pushing to transfer welfare costs onto the military budget- by loosening BCD restrictions on benefits.
They’ve already succeeded in pushing Obamacare costs onto the military through the ‘charity’ aspect of guaranteed veteran healthcare.
Denial of benefits due to a less than honorable or worse discharge IS Y’ALL’S OWN DARN FAULT!!!
‘Oh, I got into some bad habits ....”
Yeah, ya dum bunnie, YOU did!
these are people examples of what we in the military used to state as:
‘screwing the pooch’.
Today, it would be, ‘Oh man, i really f.u. bad!’
But, it is the individual’s own actions and responsibilities that earn the discharge, and conditions thereof.
No joke, veteran’s benefits are a reward for good service, it’s not meant for any dunderhead that was in for a quarter of their enlistment and got kicked out. When you join the military, you sign a contract. You shouldn’t get veteran’s benefits unless you fulfill the terms of the contract that you sign.
Jeez, now the military is hateful and awful for not giving vet’s benefits to some corndog that couldn’t make it through boot camp or was kicked out a month after boot camp for fraudulent enlistment? I’ve seen the fraudulent enlistment rap before. The kid was in A-School and, during the background check for a security clearance, they discovered problems with the law that he hadn’t disclosed when joining up.
You don’t have to some super exemplary soldier/sailor to get an honorable discharge. If you stay out of jail you’ll be fine.
I heard that. I know guys that have gone to Captain’s Mast (NJP) that got an honorable. If you got an OTH or worse, you really did something and you’re not worthy of veteran’s benefits.
