Filibuster of Veterans Bills
Vanity | June 14, 2015 | Self

Posted on 06/14/2015 9:12:35 AM PDT by where's_the_Outrage?

I am having an argument with a Lib, his stance is that the Repubs have filibustered all veterans bills in the senate, when I look at the congressional record, it seems the bill never got out of committee.

However, there are a mountain of websites claiming the repubs are filibustering vets, for example:

Some of the bills that they filibustered - bills that would have helped American people in this difficult economy:

H.R. 12 - Paycheck Fairness Act

H.R. 448 -- Elder Abuse Victims Act

H.R. 466 - Wounded Veteran Job Security Act

H.R. 515 - Radioactive Import Deterrence Act

H.R. 549 -- National Bombing Prevention Act

H.R. 577 - Vision Care for Kids Act

H.R. 626 - Federal Employees Paid Parental Leave Act

H.R. 1029 - Alien Smuggling and Terrorism Prevention Act

H.R. 1168 -- Veterans Retraining Act

H.R. 1171 - Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program Reauthorization

H.R. 1293 -- Disabled Veterans Home Improvement and Structural Alteration Grant Increase Act

H.R. 1429 -- Stop AIDS in Prison Act

H.R.5281 -- DREAM Act

S.3985 -- Emergency Senior Citizens Relief Act

S.3816 -- Creating American Jobs and Ending Offshoring Act

S.3369 -- A bill to provide for additional disclosure requirements for corporations, labor organizations, Super PACs and other entities

S.2237 -- Small Business Jobs and Tax Relief Act

S.2343 -- Stop the Student Loan Interest Rate Hike Act

S.1660 -- American Jobs Act of 2011

S.3457 -- Veterans Jobs Corps Act

But I believe it is Harry Reid that blocked the bills by never bring them to the floor, but I can't find the back up.

Just a thought, you can’t tell whats in a bill from its title. Oft times what is in it is the opposite of what its called.

Or it just creates yet another bureaucracy. Kids need glasses; lets create a program!

The one I focused on was H.R. 1168 — Veterans Retraining Act. It passed the house with no opposition, but then according to the congressional record never got out of committee:

Do you have any idea what is in any of those bills?

Just curious, because I have no idea if they are good, bad or indifferent. Were these bill put forth by Democrats or Republicans? Liberals are certainly well known for naming their bills in ways that are astonishingly at odds with what they claim to do, such as “The Affordable Care Act” and so on.

H.R. 12 - Paycheck Fairness Act f
Anything with the word “Fairness” in it should be immediately scrutinized due to the liberalspeak.

H.R. 448 — Elder Abuse Victims Act
If you don’t support this bill, no matter what it includes, you are FOR Elder Abuse.

H.R. 466 - Wounded Veteran Job Security Act
On the fence here. What is it?

H.R. 515 - Radioactive Import Deterrence Act
On the fence here. What is it?

H.R. 549 — National Bombing Prevention Act
On the fence here. What is it?

H.R. 577 - Vision Care for Kids Act
Anything with the phrase “for kids” in it should be immediate scrutinized due to the liberalspeak.

H.R. 626 - Federal Employees Paid Parental Leave Act
Anything with the phrase “parental leave” in it should be immediately scrutinized due to the liberalspeak.

H.R. 1029 - Alien Smuggling and Terrorism Prevention Act
On the fence here. What is it?

H.R. 1168 — Veterans Retraining Act
On the fence here. What is it?

H.R. 1171 - Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program Reauthorization
On the fence here. What is it?

H.R. 1293 — Disabled Veterans Home Improvement and Structural Alteration Grant Increase Act
On the fence here. What is it?

H.R. 1429 — Stop AIDS in Prison Act
Any BILL with the phrase “Stop AIDS” in it should be immediately scrutinized due to the liberalspeak.

H.R.5281 — DREAM Act
Okay, do I need to bring this one up?

S.3985 — Emergency Senior Citizens Relief Act
If you don’t support this bill, no matter what it includes, you are AGAINST ANY relief for senior citizens.

S.3816 — Creating American Jobs and Ending Offshoring Act
On the fence here. What is it? I would be very wary. This could be union backed BS.

S.3369 — A bill to provide for additional disclosure requirements for corporations, labor organizations, Super PACs and other entities
I would scrutinize this MOST closely.

S.2237 — Small Business Jobs and Tax Relief Act
Anything with the word “Tax Relief” in it should be immediate scrutinized due to the liberalspeak and for the possibility that the word Tax Relief means what it sounds like. But don’t hold your breath.

S.2343 — Stop the Student Loan Interest Rate Hike Act
Anything having to do with Student Loans is crap. Student loans should be like every other loan. You apply to a bank, and if someone co-signs the loan, they will be responsible to pay back the loan. The government shouldn’t be involved.

S.1660 — American Jobs Act of 2011
Anything with the phrase “American Jobs Act” in it should be immediately scrutinized due to the liberalspeak.

S.3457 — Veterans Jobs Corps Act
Anything with the phrase “Jobs Corps Act” or even the word “Corps” (not relating the the USMC) in it should be immediately scrutinized due to the liberalspeak.

Just my opinion on these.

See my semi-tongue-in-cheek response above.

I don’t even bother to research these things anymore, since it makes no difference, I believe we no longer have a representative government and they simply do as they please.

Now, I look at it it: If a Democrat sponsors it, I am inclined to be against it right off the bat. If Obama is for it, I am definitely against it.

I spent the better part of the last couple decades paying attention to this stuff, researching these things, seeing the obfuscation, waste, OUTRIGHT LYING, fudging of data, and then seeing them passed with support from both sides.

My vote is being cancelled by a dead person, an illegal alien, a brain dead liberal, or a liberal who votes more than once. And with things like the DREAM act, it will be more pronounced.

I’ll go one step further...

If a Democrat or Obama is for the bill - I’m against it.

If a Republican is for the bill - I’m against it.

Democrats and Republicans today...it’s like - what’s the difference between chocolate milk...and “chocolate favored drink”...at the end of the day, they are both chocolate tasting...at the end of the day, Dems and Repubs are the same.

I have a relative that lives by these kinds of programs. Getting plugged in is a full-time job, you almost have to be a lawyer to navigate all the hoops and paperwork you have to get through, and it takes a long time. But he doesn’t have anything better to do.

The process controls his life, but again he doesn’t have anything better to do.

If you’re a normal person just trying to get some help, good luck with that. This is the government, after all.

I tend to see these kinds of programs as fraudulent. But thats just me.

There has been a GI Bill plus VOC REHAB for years. Hell, Chapter 31 has been around for years. Vets still bitching about how slow the rating/disability system is. Hell, It took me over 18 years to get my initial GSW’s rated as my records were lost/misplaced. The damn BVA in 78 said the scars on my hamstring plus front upper thigh were too large and inconsistent with a bullet type wound. I was called a liar. The VA MD’s had never seen a 12.7 wound. My records were at Womack at Bragg. They said through and through GSW’s and the exact muscle groups plus one described the shattering of bone. I had a lot more records that went back to 68-69 for CUE. Now every Vet claims PTSD. BS.

The truth is that the normal populist and patriotic sentiments stirred by TPA/TPP have turned a bunch of otherwise normal Freepers into commies.
