"Director's license." Hate it, but it is what they do. Just stick with the facts (as we know them). The movie was interesting. But as you say, they did wonder here and there.

Was the brief portrayal of Gen Barksdale close to accurate? Thinking maybe diaries. Letters?

Barksdale was older by those standards...long white hair

and was killed late in the second day charging as was the wont of CSA commanders in those days

i assume it was accurate...my memories of the movie are now scant

Barksdale had a reputation as an “enthusiastic” person whether in politics as a major firebreather or war as a commander...and that likely led to making him a sweet target up front waving on troops

it was just something they did more then and it was costly especially for the South

but I was not crazy with Sheen as Lee...not even...Duvall was so much better

Elliot as Buford was great though...his deep country voice sure gives gravitas

my memories of the latter movie are better
