The Republican leader of the Senate told a crowd gathered on Sunday at the institute honoring one of the chamber’s most liberal members that the late Edward M. Kennedy’s skills as a legislator are the kind needed to help the fractious body learn to once again cooperate. Majority leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said Kennedy was someone who could separate the personal from the political and who stayed true to his word. Those are characteristics that will help the body function better in the future, and there are already signs of progress, McConnell said. “A real sense of renewal is...

In early 2008 liberal icon Edward M. Kennedy blessed Barack Obama’s long shot presidential campaign, declaring the freshman Illinois senator the next great progressive leader in a symbolic passing of the torch. On Monday, Mr. Obama heads to Massachusetts to honor Kennedy, who died in 2009 — but liberals’ enthusiasm for the president has waned from those days, and the left has moved on to other champions, most notably Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who now sits in the seat Kennedy used to hold.

Paralyzed back legs didn't slow down Fozzie, a young dog from Nepal, as she scooted around Hank's Pet Food Market in Loveland recently, lapping up attention and love, sharing her excitement. "When you look in her eyes you see she's full of life," said Zoe Katsulos with the Louisville-based inside/out Humanitourism Adventure. "This girl needs a life." That is why Kasulos and her nonprofit, with help from the owners of Hank's, brought Fozzie, who was hit by a car while living on the streets of Nepal, to Loveland, where she is currently being fostered by Kathy Brodersen. Though she has...

The November 17 edition of People magazine includes a promotional article for Timothy Shriver’s new book Fully Alive, focusing on “The Forgotten Kennedy,” the lobotomized Rosemary Kennedy, sister to Jack, Bobby and Teddy. "Why are we hiding from this story?" he asked himself, according to People’s Liz O’Neil. "There's nothing to fear here. It's a human story. It's a heroic story.” Heroically lobotomized and institutionalized? Apparently, this fiasco was “the true inspiration for his famous family’s love of service.”

When a young deer got in trouble in the Long Island Sound, it took a surprising team to bring it to safety; first a dog, then a few good Samaritans. As CBS2’s Erin Logan reported, it was all caught on video. The owner of Storm, an English golden retriever, knows he’s loyal and caring, but on Sunday morning, Storm really surprised him. “Storm just plunged into the water and started swimming out to the fawn, grabbed it by the neck, and started swimming to shore,” Mark Freeley said. Freeley recorded the video on his walk with Storm and his other...

School secretary, Jane Pieratti told Patch that students from Benjamin Banneker Academy noticed the cat hanging off the expressway near Clinton and Park avenues in the early afternoon and took action, getting the word out and even trying to catch it. Most of the students who spotted the cat from school windows were in a lesson at the time, so Pieratti said they had to wait to...

Bernie Sanders at Brooklyn rally condemns John F Kennedy/Robert Kennedy

CBS Morning News quoted Bernie Sanders (from a rally on the weekend in Brooklyn) that he condemned someone who had an allowance of $200,000/year. Bernie only had 25 cents (CBS News did not give the period for the allowance). Clearly John F Kennedy and Robert Kennedy, being the children of Joseph Kennedy, had a very privileged life. They had tutors and were educated at Harvard. So if Bernie condemns Donald Trump, then he must also condemn the Kennedy boys and their 'spoiled' upbringing. It is unclear how much of the books Why England Slept and Profiles in Courage that John...
