Why I Voted For Badnarik
Al Gutierrez

Posted on 11/05/2004 6:28:05 PM PST by alfons

I will admit I made a grammatical error. I know only too well about the RLC as I am the Chairman of the Florida RLC. We chose not to endorse Bush for re-election for his many positions that went against libertarian principles. It was left up to each individual in the RLC to vote for whom they pleased.. I was certainly not the only one that voted for Badnarik. There were many others who also voted for him and a group was formed called Republicans For Badnarik. As to Cuba, I am well aware that Bush has done many positive things in keeping the embargo against Castro. However, I was not going to vote strictly on one issue and sell out my principles on the grounds of expediency. I am an American and I am damn proud of it and why I did vote for Badnarik was the fact that I strongly value liberty which does not exist in Cuba. Even though I voted for Badnarik, I was making more of a statement that I value freedom. I never and will never take our freedom for granted unlike those who do. I thought having an exchange of ideas was supposed to be constructive. However, when I am being labeled as "moron" by some of you, that is more of a personal attack than respecting my right to have different a opinion. I most certainly did not vote for Kerry for he would have brought socialism even more. When I posted threads in the past, I always kept it above board and I never resorted to personal attacks. I was always brought up that way. I guess times do change and it has become fashionable to resort to personal attacks. However, I will not lower myself to that level. When land grabs which are violations of property rights have taken place even under Bush's administration, if that is not socialism then I guess the definition of that concept has changed. When there has been no veto of government spending, that to me is big government, We had been promised in 2000 that there were going to be vetoes to prevent government spending except of course what happened on Sept 11, 2001 and that everyone understood we would need funds to fight the war against terror Still leaving the amount of war expenditures aside, there still should have been vetoes for non war related spending and still nothing happened. A Kerry adminstration would have been a disaster for this country and I know that only too well. That is why the two party system that we have had, the Demopublicans to me were very much alike. The only difference was that the Dems wanted to get to socialism a lot faster while the Republicans with Neocons at the helm were getting to it at a much slower rate. Still they have been going in the same direction. However, I am hopeful that the Bush administration will get back to the concept of limited government and talk about privatizing Social Security is most certainly a step in the right direction as well as making tax cuts permanent. As Ronald reagan said, trust but verify. Only time will tell.

At least you didn't throw away your vote for a guy like Kerry.

No offense but...

If there were enough people who thought like you, we'd be saying the words "President-elect Kerry " bout now. Jesus, that God people who think like you are in the fringe minority. That being said, I am very sympathetic to SOME Libertarian causes, but lets be practical here.

Your guy drew 300,000 fewer votes than in 2000.

IOW, the Libertarian Party is dying.

Since you didn't vote for Bush, your bitching about his administration will receive the same attention as if you had voted for Kerry.

Most Republican conservatives agree...smaller govt. is better.

But wasting a vote was a risky move. Thankfully it did not result in four years of Skerry...who would you have felt then? You did the wrong thing by voting for Badnarik. In these high stress dangerous times of war, voting for Badnarik was a selfish and silly thing to do.

As possible refugees from New York State of horror we are thinking of Texas...what's it like to live in the Hammer's district?

Yeah, how silly of him to think that a forum named Freerepublic would be interested in the opinions of people who truly support a free republic. What was he thinking?

If you read what I just posted, I am a member of the RLC and what I strive for is to get the Republican Party back to its libertarian principles and to get it away from the Neocon influence. From reading about the neocons, prior to them changing their views, they were sympathetic to Trotsky. Yet still, one thing that has not changed with them is their need to have a bigger, more paternalistic government. Gee, that sounds just like what Kerry wanted to do. Oh well then FORGIVE ME FOR WANTING TO PROTECT THE CONSTITUTION AND WHAT THE FOUNDERS HAD INTENDED THIS COUNTRY TO BE, A CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC.

Well, you can live in a mansion for what you're paying in rent for a little apartment in New York. That might make up for the hot summers here, although we had an exceptionally pleasant one this year for the first time in history.

We have no income tax, and Republicans rule everything. You'd have to try to lose the NY accent, but that takes about 6 months.

We're entirely friendly unless you're a criminal. Then we shoot you, or if we miss, the state executes you. It suits me.

We are not living in the city of New York...thank God!

But anywhere in this state is pretty bad...depression rules. Schumer and Hiliary are senators from this state.

Your description of Texas sounds mighty fine.

I'll just add that my ballot is boring in the general election. Most Democrats don't even try.

It's hot down here for half of the year, but we've deregulated the electricity business, and a dozen companies try to sign you up with low prices. It works.

Gasoline is far cheaper than the national average. I filled up at $1.71 today. My parents in California are paying $2.35.

The Hammer has been good to me.

Yeah voting against a person you agree with 90% of the time with the chance you will elect a person you disagree with 90% of the time. How silly is that?

Well, you won't get a bitter reception from me. I have always voted Republican, but before I'm a republican, I'm a capatilist, and an extreme anti-socialist...so there's a place in my heart for you.

During the Clinton years it was always my dream that Clinton would so destroy the Democrats that it may give rise to the Libertarians to become the dominant second party to remove the threat of government takeover of any industry. It seems that now is a good opportunity while they are "Regrouping".

However, you must remember that our capitalistic system wasn't started by the Indians. Every year around Thanksgiving The Wall Street Journal does a great editorial (its the same every year) that describes what the pilgrims went through to live here; where the BIRTH of our capitalism started---with the Christians. I believe a secular society can not survive with a capitalist ecomony.

Huh? That's not true.

Badnarick drew about the same as Browne did in 2000. Maybe some 3,000 less, not 300,000 less.

I'm proud to be a Libertarian. I agree with most views espoused by conservatives. There's a problem though, most of these conservative viewpoints I agree with are being talked about by people in talk radio and on the web in fine forums such as this. Not in D.C. by supposed conservatives elected to office.

Libertarians lose national elections because they won't toss what they believe in out the window so they can garner votes.

You should take a look at your party. It's loaded with socialists with an "R" in front of their name instead of a "D" because they see which way the wind is blowing.
