I think it's certain that local areas grafted their traditional practices onto Christianity but the origins of those holidays had nothing to do with the pagans.

Easter also has nothing to do with the pagans. Easter is called that only by English speakers.

These holidays have to do with Passover which is what Easter is called in non English speaking countries. I guess the question would be why are the English different.
